Unless your programming requires it.
The brain is the leaving organism that needs energy, it doesn't have anything with programming, if brain doesn't eat it dies-no energy, no life, as simple as it gets.

I must ask, if this simulation is so perfect to be undetectable, what difference does it make if its real or not? [since its almost the same as reality]. I think logical positivism demands we disreguard this question if its no different than reality.
It is true. They are indistinguishable unless the real universe doesn't have particles. But any universe with particles will work the same way. Oh there is another possible difference. We may have a different evolutionary stage. So for example we may have better sight, and hearing. Maybe a higher level of intelligence.
Yes, it may be possible. But if there is no way to know, it may as well not be true. It wouldnt matter, it wouldnt have any real impliciation.
It would mean something to me.
It would mean that I figured it out.
I mean, I know how to write the program now. So I could have wrote my own program, and that would blow my mind.
How would u know? Pls explain.
O.K., I took this original post to be a question! As for myself, the answer would be; No, I am not living in a computer simulation! However - since following this thread, and reading the numerous posts - I have been led to believe that once again, my lack of intelligence has allowed the virtual quantum wool to pulled over my eyes!! Ergo, I seem to have no choice but to pray to the Lord "Ohm Might He" grant us all the Second coming of the Great E.M.P.!! Seriously though - JUST QUIT IT!! I was getting along just great being the dumbest man on earth and I never thought anyone would care to take that title away from me!!!!
Don't worry, they won't!
Cool!! It is comforting to know my place in the greater scheme of things. Seriously though, are we living in a computer simulation? I know I'm DUMB and probably more than a little foolish, but should I be worried about a power outage, virus, malware or someone spilling coffee on a keyboard or something like that? Even being as dumb as i am (obviously!!), I have learned to accept help from the really smart people that I've met and would like to feel comfortable knowing that a computer glitch somewhere out there would not have me waking up tomorrow an old Bic pen, a stripped lug nut or a mosquito or something like that. You have a lot of posts, so maybe you could help me make some sense of this. Only a couple billion other things scare the HECK out of me on daily basis (I live in United States), but one less would be weight off of my shoulders! Hope you will not mind helping one of us little people out! Oh, and Oh Yeah - Happy Holidays, also!!!
You wouldn't know if the power went off, because the power went off.
I think that this universe can be simulated, and if it can there would be one for everyone. Being as one for everyone adds up to more than this single one, then there is more chance of you being in a simulator. That's a kind of joke.. but being as this one is timed to all of the first appearances of the finest technology in history then it seems more like a history lesson to me. 1st computer etc.. they only happen once.
if so does unreasonableness reside here ?

From this thread; All evidence points to YES!!!
computers are based on logic
what happens when the logic is flawed ? what is the result ?
