Why is god so hard to disbelieve?

There is no evidence of even a possibility that a god/gods exist. Gods are only created from the human mind. To paraphrase Cris, they're figments of human imagination. Believing in god(s) is akin to believing that the great big hairy monstery under your bed (perhaps you made his acquaintence around the age of five?) is real.

Why believe? There is no logical reason.

If you are raised religious it can be very hard...at least initially.

It requires the brain to take a left turn and an admission that everything the people you love has told you is probably hogwash. Basically, you have to realize that the people you trust and respect have no clue. When you are a kid in high school this makes the world seem like a lonely and desolate place. Luckily things get better in college. :)

Social conditioning is a bitch to unwind...

There is no logical reason for anything. Quantum Physics isn't logical, yet its true.
Quantum physics is perfectly logical (evinced by the fact that it has been worked out mathematically), it's just not commonsensical. That is, the macroscopic laws of nature that we are familiar with on the level of human perception do not apply on the quantum level.

You are right, after one studies Quantum Physics it becomes completely logical. I meant that by using common sense it would seem wrong.

Actually, that's not quite true. Evidence is there (eg miracles), but is dismissed as unreliable or invalid by non-believers, quite possibly correctly.

Have you taken the time to investigate the investigation of any miracles? Even one?

Pete,

Have you taken the time to investigate the investigation of any miracles? Even one?
Do you have one you can share with us?

Surely at least one person who thinks that there is no evidence for God knows of at least one alleged miracle?

Maybe start with Jean-Pierre Bely. He was allegedly miraculously cured of MS.
Look him up. Be careful of generalising.

It's logical. Not my problem if you're too stupid to comprehend it.

"Allegedly". Not "proven to be".

I have yet to see a credible, neutral, non religious website acknowledge that it was indeed a miracle. "Allegedly" means nothing.

If I sue your mother for murdering mine, the news will say that your mom "allegedly" killed mine. Means nothing; hasn't been proven.

Nice try.

Logic belongs to the domain of the a priori.

Apparently, "you're too stupid" to make your point without childish ad hominem.

Can you read? ... Are you fucking illiterate?
Now that was a literate comment.

=======================

The issue is not that God constructs are necessarilly 'illogical', but that there is no compelling evidence warranting belief.

Eh, do men get menopause?
*runs off to check*

Apparently some people found my most recent post a bit too hard to deal with. Cool.

Yes, one thread asking why is it so hard to believe. Well wouldn't you think the other sides question would be why so hard to disbelieve. There was no need to start a seperate thread. Both sides were being discussed. But now you're just spliiting groups up with this thread. Threads subject lines might take the side of one group, but trust me, the other side is being represented and is asking the appropriate questions. There was no need for this thread.

Getting angry does nothing to anyone but yourself. Explain this, Logically, why is surviving important to everything?
