Current statistics show that only about 50% of U.S. persons under the age of 30 believe marriage is necessary. Why? I'm guessing that many women under the age of 30 are giving their milk away for free. Are these women brain dead?
 
Stupid for wanting sex? It's a natural urge. Marriage is a relic of a time when men owned women.
 
Is it wise to buy a car without turning it on and taking it for a test drive?

Doesn't your analogy apply vice versa as well? Guys are giving away their milk for free (no marriage commitment?). Are they brain dead?

Marriage is a life long contract where two people agree to live with one another, probably raise kids, and rely on each other despite their differences. It plays a role in ensuring the safety and economic welfare of men, women and children. It is not a relic when men owned women. That doesn't even make sense. It is a relic of a time when women didn't give it up some much and society castigated the promiscious and divorced.

Since when is it the guy that can hold out the longest on having sex? Men have always been more hungry for sex than women.

So women are careful when giving it away, men just throw it anywhere they possibly can, thats just part of how the sexes are different. Men breed widley women breed wisley.

There are other kinds of relationships than this. You can have sex without a relationship. Why is that bad?

Marriage arose when it became important to keep track of male lines of descent.

Like being stupid? No, these women have greatly lowered their expectations in life. Instead of striving to be a mother, they're striving to be a sex queen.

Maybe they see it as just a formality. It's really nothing more than a ritual, and at the end you get a piece of paper that says "I'm in a long term relationship".

Besides, a lot of it depends on how the question was worded. Statistics are worthless without full transparency of the questions, how they were administered and who they were administered to. Especially with a question like this one. What do they mean by "necessary"? Necessary for life? Necessary for a relationship you're in? Necessary for sex? Necessary to have a family? The statistics for each of these variations would probably be completely different.

I don't disagree that these youths see marriage as a mere formality. But, that's only from the perspective of couples having constant pre-marital sex. Indeed, it is only a formality once you've shacked up and shagged on.

Because they give up the benefits of a life long commitment to marriage and family, in return for a short-term relationship based on sex. That's dumb.
