I have to say bell that i pitty anyone who feels that they are unsecure because they dont work and there partner does. My parents have always had joint accounts and both have an equal say as to how the money gets spent. Now that we are all adults mum does work (she went back to uni and became a primary school teacher) and its rather fortunate because it looks like dad could lose his job and they will still have mums income to live on. I cant think of one fight they EVER had over money, dad earned it, mum spent it Infact it was so like that, that one year mum bought dad a tropical fish tank because in 20 years of marrage he had hardly ever spent any money on himself.
I am not that nieve that i havent seen any other kind of relationship though. My partners parents DONT have joint accounts, they both work and then they end up fighting every week about who pays more on the bills. Its really sad and quite unlikly they will be together in a few years.
Oh and about parents taking a roll, dad did what he could and if mum got sick he did stay home and look after her and us. He is a great father and if i can be half the dad he is i would be an great parent but it doesnt change that he couldnt always be around when we needed him or wanted him to be. He couldnt always go places with us even on the weekends because he was always on call for work if something happened.
