What do you thank about the idea of... all moderation done wit total respect... ie... no smart-azz replys to the person bein moderated.???
Not possible.
The very institute of moderation is an act of disrespect.

For sake of argument... oK... but had you rather the moderation you receive not include smart-azz remarks.???
So is willfully peeing on the someone else's carpet. Is it your position that I cannot, without breaching propriety, disinvite my guests who make a game out of peeing on my carpets ?The very institute of moderation is an act of disrespect.

You aren't the only moderator. It would probably help if mods didn't moderate angrily, yet some do.
I know what was meant, but the answer is a bit obvious don't you think? Ofcourse I think all moderation should be done with respect.Good... but i intended my queston to be about all mods in general.!!!

If some mods don't I can't do anything about it. If you have issues with a particular mod you should straigthen it out with them. If that doesn't work talk to a supermod/admin.
I'm sorry, I was under the impression that there was something you could do about it. Don't you have a forum in which you could discuss this sort of thing with those moderators? Perhaps explain to them why moderating with civility and calm is better than provoking offending posters with threatening or insulting messages?

Glad to hear it... i might run a poll to see how many mods agree with us.!!!Ofcourse I think all moderation should be done with respect.
You think there are mods that don't know that?
Look. If anyone has a problem and I think they have a point, I will try to help them if they get stuck.
But at the end of the day I have no authority whatsoever over any mod. For that you'll have go to an admin.
Yeah, when I start getting paid I'll start reviewing eveything every other mod does, ok? I have my own life going on here. I just moderate FT and ATM, other mods also have their own subfora to moderate. You miss the point again.
The problem isn't that there are mods who don't know their behavior is poor, it's that they have no pushback from within their own ranks. James said himself, when bans are given out, there is rarely any internal commenting. Maybe if you started addressing moderator misbehavior, others would find the confidence (interest?) to join you.

Would you also consider the action of arresting someone an act of disrespect? Or of instituting laws / social standards?
That sounds a lot like anarchism to me... and anarchy tends to end badly for all involved
Would you care to expand on that? Not possible.

Anyway, enough of this. This isn't the thread for it. Clueluss is trying to decide whether or not its worth it to be a mod.
You don't think that hearing the views of existing mods, and how things are or aren't handled, is useful to hear for someone deciding whether or not its worth it?Anyway, enough of this. This isn't the thread for it. Clueluss is trying to decide whether or not its worth it to be a mod.

I.e. your comments are almost certainly the exact sort of thing he would want to hear - how it is time consuming, how you concentrate on just your own subfora, how there is little peer-review between mods, that you leave such to the super-mods and admins etc. All gold for someone trying to decide whether its worth it or not.
