What's on your iPod?

I spent the afternoon riding, leading another horse from my friend's place to it's new home. Naturally, I had to find a cowboy song to post, there being a shortage of cowgirl songs, lol...

7 km there, 10 km to the new place and then 3 km home with a 'warm up gift' of a fine bottle of white wine tucked into the front of my parka. My mare is a fine, steady mount, the wine was never in any danger. :D

My sympathies to you, Cosmic. Some anniversaries will never get easier, no matter how much time passes. My own mother is visibly failing, and losing one's maternal bond, the portal by which we enter this life, is judged to be one of the greatest challenges we face.

Ahhh My Mom loved George Jones, played that at her funeral last year.

My sympathies for your loss also, Nietzschefan. It is a fact of life that we all eventually become members of the same support groups. Whether one is close to their mother or less so, the loss is one of the more profound crossroads of our journey.

Thank you for you kind words.

At least I was with her and holding her hand when she passed at 95 of old age. She gave a little smile just before she let go which was something I'll never forget.

Another tribute song for mothers, an old Irish ballad. This one is both sweet and poignant.....tissue paper close to hand is recommended for those of strong sympathetic/empathic nature.

Bridie Gallagher, the Girl from Donegal - A Mother's Love is a Blessing

An Irish boy was leaving
Leaving his own native home,
Crossing the broad Atlantic waves,
Once more he wants to roam,
And as he was leaving his mother,
While swalking or' the Quay,
He threw his arms around her waist
And this to her did say:
Chorus:
A mother's love is a blessing,
No matter where you roam.
Keep her while she's living,
Cos you'll miss her when she's gone.
Love her as in childhood,
Though hen feeble, old and grey,
For you'll never miss a mother's love
'til she's buried beneath the clay.

And as the years grow onwards,
I'll settle down in life,
And I'll choose a nice young Irish girl,
And take her for my wife.
And as the kids grow older,
They'll play around my knee
And I'll teach them the very same lesson
That my mother taught to me:

Chorus:
A mother's love is a blessing,
No matter where you roam.
Keep her while she's living,
Cos you'll miss her when she's gone.
Love her as in childhood,
Though hen feeble, old and grey,
For you'll never miss a mother's love
'til she's buried beneath the clay.

That was nice.

Thank you. Your selection by Celine was very nice also. I am constantly delighted to find hidden gems when I go 'song surfing'.

The human condition is shared by us all, and while we do not all have identical experiences, there remain some that are universally experienced, and love and loss figures highly as the subject of much music. :)
