What's on your iPod?

Since its all quite on the Western front, although still plenty of religious debate going on, I thought I would present my Angel again,,,my Greek Angel that is!

Nana Mouskouri - Serenade de Schubert

While looking for possible ipod things I stumbled on this. Turns out the source of 'Cotton picking blues' is one Elizabeth Cotten. I am ashamed to find that it has taken nearly 50 years to find out that the musical style I have most sought to emulate originated from a black American woman working as a cleaner

My favorite Cotten song - sung by her granddaughter, with suitably elided lyrics, Cotten on deceptively simple guitar.

Another one - the woman was playing in her nineties, the song is one she wrote and played when she was 11 or 12 years old (probably on the banjo):

Most of the standard "How to Play Folk Guitar" books will have that song, with the guitar tab written out. Cotten seems to have invented the guitar approach in her mid teens.

"The Rainbow Connection" by Kermit the Frog. If I ever get serious about my music again, this will be the title song on my first CD. I've sung it in every karaoke bar I've ever been in, and it always gets a standing ovation. Probably because these folks were kids when "The Muppet Movie" came out, and this was the film's theme song.

Why are there so many songs about rainbows, and what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, and only illusions, and rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told... and some choose to believe it. I know they're wrong: wait and see!
Someday we'll find it: the Rainbow Connection; the lovers, the dreamers... and me.

Who said that every wish would be heard and answered, if wished on the morning star?
Well, somebody thought of that, and someone believed it, and look what it's done so far!
What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing, and what do we think we will see?
Someday we'll find it: the Rainbow Connection; the lovers, the dreamers... and me.

All of us under its spell, we know that it's probably magic!

Have you been half asleep, and have you heard voices? I've heard them calling my name!
Is this the sweet song that calls the young sailors? The voice might be one and the same.
I've heard it too many times to ignore it. It's something that I'm supposed to be.
Some day we'll find it: the Rainbow Connection; the lovers, the dreamers and me!
