You rejected the hypothesis that some form of electrical discharge might be the explanation for the green light you witnessed. You were quite dismissive of those who suggested this.Ogmios said:Now what the hell are the green elves!? Instead of insulting me, could you just inform me?
You denied that lightning could be green. You didn't just say that you thought that unlikely, or that in your experience lightning wasn't green. You came out very directly and said it wasn't green and the suggestion of electrical discharge was wrong.
Such definite statements imply a knowledge of the phenomenom being discussed. I cited to examples of lightning forms that may be green - coronal discharges and green elves. You then asked "What is a green elf?".
Now, Ogmios, I am not insulting you when I asked if you thought you might be being arrogant.
a) You don't have much knowledge of atmospheric electrical phenomena, or you would have known about green elves.
b) It certainly seems to me arrogant to express definitive opinions on atmospheric electrical phenomena when you don't have much knowledge of them.
c) You don't appear to think this is arrogant.
So, on these three specific issues I have stated facts and only facts. I don't understand how a fact can be an insult.
Green elves are amporphous, faint, green discharges, occuring at high altitude above cloud level and appearing for at most a couple of seconds just after a conventional lightning discharge within the cloud.
I am not proposing these as an explanation for what you saw. I am mentioning them to counter your definitive statement that lightning is never green.
