In humans without assistance? Not far. There's an ancestrally tetraploid desert rat, as I recall. That's as much as I've heard about whole-ploidy deviation in mammals. Monotremes, perhaps.
 
It's a fine medical approach - fixing the engine by moving it to a new carb, so to speak - but technically hasn't all this or its varied proxies been done before?
