I can see you are not familiar with Lakoff's work. I think actually you would agree with him in many ways - he is very demystifying and down to earth - however his understanding of language is a bit more nuanced than yours. I recommended it as a bridge. And unlike someone like Derrida he is very clear and straightforward as a writer and builds all his arguments on the latest - as of the date of writing - scientific research. It was a suggestion based on what I saw as your limitations as a communicator - ie.your confusion about what 'talk like a human' means and your comments on my post here - and had nothing to do with metaphysics or anything else bullshitlike you think I am up to my neck in.

In post after post you react to what you imagine you read and call it world.

As far as the rest of your hallucinations of what I MUST believe if I found your genes answer facile, well, Myles, they are hallucinations. You clearly did not read my answers on that thread. Again, just notice that Myles, it might be of use to you realize. None of them were mystical at all. None of my answers to Greenberg's question about suicide were based on supernatural things, the unknown, God, hidden meanings etc.

I think it is humorous that the man of science who thinks he is lecturing a heathen believing in 'the unknown' could not even be bothered to do the minimum empirical look-see. But rant on Myles. I'll leave you to it, but since you are clearly reacting to and commenting on posts that I never wrote I must ignore you.

So it's my fault that you wrote what you did. All you ever seem to do is to make a straightforward issue complicated. You have said nothing to refute my arguments about the role of genes. What does Lakoff have to say trhat has not been said better by the Churchlands and Susan Greenfield. Just try and accept that genetics and neuroscience have left philosophy behind.

I didn't mean to frighten you but I have clearly done so. Now what was it someone said about existential angst ? You will feel safer with the wooly stuff that talks of meaning, making decisions and so on. Good look with that.

Don't forget that your brain depends on your mind for its existence. That discovery was a real breakthrough on your
part. Reifying the brain was a stroke of genius. Neuroscientists need to be told.

I never assumed you were talking of god and so on. Where did you get that idea from ? My difference with you is simply a matter of whether we have or have not free will and the role played by our genes in shaping us. You believe in some form of autonomy; I do not.

Let's leave it at that.
