There is no right and wrong in language - only convention. There are two dominant standard varieties of English - the British version and the American version. Neither can claim to be more correct than the other, since both have millions of people who use them. To say that one is correct and the other wrong is equivalent to saying that English is right and Mandarin is wrong (or vice versa).

Yea its rough out here in cyberworld but I do think there is some sense of community. How many times has a poster fallen into a personal attack on another poster only to show themself an asshole? Usually posters are in a position to defend themselves and those who prefer to stick to discussion simply ignore them, or when it has gone too far there are always others to take sides and jump towards defence. Let all of us be who we are, being constantly nasty only serves to alienate one from a community anyway...and who enjoys being beaten down or alienated.

Now me, I'm getting annoyed at how much I have to use my Ignore List in WE&P. As most of you know already...

i think he can´t sleep well everyday without adding someone and tell it the world !

A little over 20 wraith. And relax there nikon, I managed to go a whole day without having to add another poster to the list...

and ? how does it feel ?
oh ,better i stop talking to you before you have to put somebody again on this ignore-list :p

It eased some of the mental stress that reading posts from people like Jerrek was causing me. I can heartily recommend it.

sparky is a moron. what about the respondents to the posts of the folks on his ignore list? can a thread even make sense? personally i think the fool still reads em. notice how the fucker parades the list like some frikkin badge of honor! dolt!! mental stress my ass. if there ever was a guy so ill prepared for life, its gotta be ole sparky

Care to give us the complete list? Or would that not be the done thing?

Bothers me none. Three or four of the names though, were just taken at random from the pseudoscience forum because the "edit ignore list" box doesn't seem to work for me - to get someone off ignore, I seem to need to fill the full list including the two blank spaces and overwrite the someone's name with valid member names, or the submit button just spits back an error message saying that " " is a moderator and cannot be ignored...
But the rest of the list are there for a good reason - a total lack of ability to have a civil conversation, an inability to refrain from blatent trolling, or a distinct and persistant allergy to logical argument both in themselves and from others.

You wannabe see why I am on GOD's ignore list?

nico,
The objective is to become less militant, not more. Maybe you can jerk off while watching Starship Troopers and think it's wonderful - the rest of us are somewhat less willing to kill people.

Welcome to my Ignore list. (Again).

After that Ad Hom, I should put the egotistical moron on my ignore list. But that is only for pussies who can't stand any form of criticism. If U read the thread I gave u, it says alot about Sparks dosen't it. I get ignored because I presented a topic. I suggest we put sparks on our ignore, let's see how he likes it. And since he can't read this... LOSER!

the guy simply doesnt understand how stupid he is making himself look.:D

i dont think anyone in history of sciforums has gone this far in insulating his fragile ego

I think that the post that your reply here linked to was a good example of trolling. I agree with your perpective in that thread and disagree with Zero's, which seemed rather ignorant and ethnocentric, but I also have to point out that your reply in that post is what a "troll" wants.
OMG you are so pathetic Zero , I recommend suicide no hope for you whatsoever the sooner you get it over with the better.

I moderate a forum at another site which also runs vBulletin and I have to say that, at that site, I would have edited/deleted the posts with insults as they are against the rules there. At the very least I would have issued a warning to all parties.

I think that active moderation works well in most cases to keep things civil, but you will always have the trolls. Sometimes, unfortunately, they're what actually keeps things alive... It gets very boring when a bunch of people all sit around and discuss how they all agree about things. Trolling, however, is extreme and deserves occasional warnings by moderators when obvious.

Just my $.02

Sparks Special Delivery : how amazingly facinating that accounts who are no longer in use for months have recently been added to the ever-amazing Sparks-ignore list .

Im really not sure I know what trolling is . Ive seen some characterization lists , but I fel they were rather sad .

As for my link to Zero's post , it was meant to point out unacceptebly low intelligence .

This was because his post dealt with :

* compares that are not logical
* conclusions drawn from those compares that are not logical .
* centricism

but I also have to point out that your reply in that post is what a "troll" wants.

If such troll wants to be ridiculed and proven infererior in intelligence , that is fine with me and Im happy Ive been able to help him out .

I moderate a forum at another site which also runs vBulletin and I have to say that, at that site, I would have edited/deleted the posts with insults as they are against the rules there.

* If you would manage to provide moderation that did not allow insults , I would not be making them as my insults are never engaging .

* What do you consider an insult ? Calling a person names ? Ridiculing his value as a living creature ? I would rather consider the entire post of Zero an insult . Would you delete his entire post ? Then Im sure you wouldnt have seen that sentence you have quoted from me .

I think that active moderation works well in most cases to keep things civil

I agree . When I first came to these boards I have been very anti-fascism , however my position has changed due to the fact that I have discovered smileys to be a perfect replacement for certain peoples thoughts . There should be right for recognition (no banning) , but there should no way , in no way should there be freedom of speach as it is here .

That does not deal with namecalling , but with pure and simple ignorance . It is a wise thing to shut up when you dont know .
And when knowledge is made to awareness , its wise to recognize it and not stay in denial because of your being right or wrong .

Sparks has inspired me . I think there ought to be also a chance for reality denial , as there is for reality repression on this forum .

As far as "trolling," the definition as I've always understood it is similar to deep sea fishing where one uses bait to "troll" for the big fish. This is what "trolls" do on the internet... they "bait" those that will respond with semi-harsh to harsh words so they can engage in a flame war.

As to insults, the rules at the other site (not this one) simply state "insults and name-calling" is not permitted... What's insulting to one person is often not to another, but the rule of thumb among moderators there is to head off flame wars by addressing direct insults and ad hominem attacks.

I'm not faulting your comment here, I was simply pointing out that there are more active moderation styles in other forums at other sites that work. Granted, the other site is one that is supposed to be considered family oriented (LucasForums), and the average age/education level there is probably lower on both counts than here. Profanity seems to be tolerated here, which is fine by me.

I think Sparks is the type who puts everyone who doesn't suck up to his overlarge ego on his "list", and then clicks "Read Post" every time because he lacks the mental capacity to avoid doing so. Idiot.

I use my ignore list with a little tiny bit more control then EI_Sparks: I only put people on there that I think will get banned, so far I have been right 3 out of 3 times (Green_world, Abdullathebomber and Proud_Syrian)! Oh I'm good so let this be a indicator to all of my soothsaying powers  if I put you on my ignore list I predict you will be out of here, and I haven’t been wrong so far!
