Halo is a ringworld, and if it were real, it would be so large that hoop stress would tear it apart unless it were made of some material stronger than any known to exist in the real world. The world shown above 'Hoopworld', is actually a torus, held together by its own gravity and centrifugal force (technically it s a 'self-gravitating ring).
