The little jumping snow bugs are formally known as Snow Fleas, a type of springtail, which is a type of insect that is sort of like a cousin to all the other insects that we typically think of as insects. So, how do they relate to you and me? You’ll be pleased to know that as decomposers, they eat only tiny bits of decaying material from the forest floor, meaning that if they’re crawling around on you, the worst that could happen is that they could make you cleaner, like little tiny organic Roombas. So, do not despair, they are not pests, and can perhaps be interpreted as a sign that you are seeing them in a place with healthy soil.
Springtails are very small ranging from 1-3mm in length. They are often dark in colour but can range from pinks to greens. Some experts believe that these are the most abundant of all insects on earth with forest floor litter able to hold up to 50,000 per cubic foot. They are found throughout the world including the Arctic and high Himalayas. Specimens that have been found trapped in amber from 45 million years ago are similar to those still present today.

That pool is in Songiang, China. It's an old quarry.
Looks like an inviting vacation spot to me. Is that a hotel at the back? Also, that picture isn't a common sight, how would you know what it is and where it's located?
