How Should People Interpret 'UFO'?

UFO is an unknown flying object .

The UFO ; its speed and manuverability sets it apart from any known flying craft .

Yes.

No.

Flying objects that are slow and/or not maneuvering are still unidentified flying objects.

The only criteria are
  • unidentified, and
  • flying
Bingo!!! river obviously and trollishly is trying to get a raise out of me. :)
Check out his other thread and similar attempts.
Perhaps when he says something that is supported by some reputable evidence or observation, I may respond...as of yet all we have is more of the same, nuclear war on Mars nonsense, Bigfoot/s, and Aliens and other supposed anti science attempts. :D

I still cherish the notion that river and MR are the same person, river being a sort of exceptionally stupid Hyde to MR's more subtle but equally malevolent Jekyll.

http://www.dictionary.com/browse/ufo
any unexplained moving object observed in the sky, especially one assumed by some observers to be of extraterrestrial origin.

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/UFO
an unidentified flying object;
a flying object in the sky that some people believe could be a spaceship from another planet
Let's add some more reputable definitions while MR is on leave.......

https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/UFO
A mysterious object seen in the sky for which it is claimed no orthodox scientific explanation can be found, often supposed to be a vehicle carrying extraterrestrials.

http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/ufo

abbreviation for unidentified flying object: an object seen in the sky that is thought to be a spacecraft from another planet:

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/UFO
UFO - an (apparently) flying object whose nature is unknown; especially those considered to have extraterrestrial origins

In essence then all we have in this and the many many other supernatural/paranormal/Alien threads, are gullible, and impressionable claims, made by gullible and impressionable people, who offer no real evidence of aliens at all. The one common denominator in all this nonsense is that in all the thousands of sightings and abductions and medical procedures, no Alien space craft, no physical evidence, no excreta or dead body, or any other physical aspect has ever been forthcoming.

Desperation? ;) not at all. You are wrong.
The points are addressed in the definitions: That's what dictionaries are for.
Just as Dave has informed you, you are wrong, as is post 130.

Dictionary definitions of UFO's are based on mufon , definitions ?

Wrong ; that UFO's are more than just pictures ; but have extrodinary speed and manuverability .

No, I'm right river, and obviously you just do not want others to burst your little bubble of the mystique, paranormal and supernatural.

I still cherish the notion that river and MR are the same person, river being a sort of exceptionally stupid Hyde to MR's more subtle but equally malevolent Jekyll.

Wrong pad ; you just won't admit that UFO's have extreme speed and manuverability .
Don't be so childish river.
You have five definitions that give what a UFO is, and that is that.
When people talk of defining UFO's, the first thing they need to accept is that at this time we have no conclusive or extraordinary evidence that any life off this Earth even exists, let alone crazy impressionable people imagining that they are visiting us.

... UFO's are more than just pictures ; but have extrodinary speed and manuverability .
... what sets UFO's apart from known flying craft is the speed and manuverability .
So your definition of UFOs is defined by their extraordinary speed and maneuverability

You disqualify all hovering objects as not being UFOs? All lights that move slowly. All landing accounts. All objects following aircraft.
These are NOT UFOS because they do not exhibit extraordinary speed and maneuverability.

By your account, below is not a picture of a UFO because it does not show this characteristic speed and maneuverability.

Mars%252C%2BUFO%252C%2BUFOs%252C%2Bsighting%252C%2Bsightings%252C%2BClinton%252C%2Bobama%252C%2Breport%252C%2Borb%252C%2Busaf%252C%2Bspecies%252C%2Bpluto%252C%2Bspace%252C%2Bsky%252C%2Bhunter%252C%2Bastronomy%252C1.png

That is an impressively narrow view of UFOs. It eliminates 99.999% of UFO sightings, photos and evidence.

In fact, it means there can be no photos of UFOs because photos don't show speed of maneuverability.

Slow speed is extraordinary speed.

Slow speed is extraordinary speed.
No speed is any conclusive evidence of a UFO.
Extraordinary evidence is of course a body part, an instrument, faeces not of this world. Seeing something move at any speed may well be illusory or just plain vivid imagination.
In fact no conclusive evidence of life off this earth exists as yet, as much as I would like it to, and that is the official stance.
Off course the extent and content of the universe and the stuff of life being everywhere, indicates that life should arise elsewhere, but again contact between species is separated by time and distance.
