Do you love America?

What I don't understand about american hubris is this: Even if my native country were to become a world power, I would never emphatically believe it's the best for everyone because I know every nation and culture despite it's problems has it's own appeal to them and there are differences that you may not notice because it's a taste that is not even on your radar. They seem to forget the personal aspects of a culture and the identity associated with it's people which is very important to them. It's like assumng someone wants to live with your family because you have more 'stuff' yet that doesn't mean they actually like or prefer you. This seems that it should be naturally understood and therefore peculiarly blind about american's way of thinking. I know america has a lot but still all countries and cultures have potential and thier own seeds of identity and beauty.

How many of your friends worked in both the USA and the Soviet Union? And please explain this analogy, because it makes no sense.

Some 4 or 5. I come from a country that was in the Soviet Union and it makes sense to us.

State sanctioned patriotism,
an interpretation of history that is not like in the rest of the world,
outside forces are portrayed as the enemy and people are held in fear of threat, attention is diverted to it from internal problems,
crappy internal situation (American health care and elderly care, social guaranties suck, etc. There were other problems in CCCP),
countrymen are portrayed as the saviors of the world,
abuse of human rights whenever matters of state security are used as an excuse,

+ others

On what do you base your statement that the U.S. is a police state? Do you have some solid proof of that? If so, I'd like to see it AND see it compared to other countries that ARE police states.

Just look at your own laws and the power of gov institutions.
Patriot act, Homeland security office, Guatanamo, No-flight lists, etc.

Americans don't believe America is for everyone. Americans do believe that democracy is for everyone. American culture spreading into your country has little to do with American attitudes and more to do with universal appeal to common human interests.

Please free us and bring us democracy. I am fed up with this totalitarian regime of ours.

Sure, I have relatives who are Americans - mom, pop, sisters et cetera.

then we have American relatives in common! ;)

"Patriot act, Homeland security office, Guatanamo, No-flight lists, etc." These are slight tightenings on civil liberties of American citizens. As far as foreigners stuck in Guatanamo, I could care less.

Americans do believe that democracy is for everyone.
Hence your miserable failure in Iraq.
Mentality of people is not the same everywhere in the world. It actually differs due to climate and culture.
Democracy might be good for you, but to believe that everyone is like an average American is arrogant and, dare I say, an insult.

Slight tightenings!!! :D Say that to someone who's not a lawyer. :D
Cheers! I'll go laugh somewhere away where I don't disturb people.

They threatened the freedom of the USA! I'd say we should torture them for real except the fun waterboarding and then hang them from their nuts!

I can't believe anyone whishes to harm america. cuz it aint right not to love the USA.

It is no insult to say that all men are created equal, and all people deserve an equal say in their government which is to serve their interests. I do not believe that any people would disagree with these principles given the chance to experience them. This principle is embedded in self-interest, which is a universal trait of all mankind. Remember, we are all ancestors of an ancient African tribe and not significantly different from each other.

Yes, there are things about America to love. Not the current government, but the history and the people - that's what I love about America.

To those of you who come from near-3rd world societies: Our laws are what gave the opportunity to people to be satisfied and opulent. The laws in your countries are what made you poor, envious, and bitter.

I live in American. I have not felt any ramifications from the Patriot Act etc. in my daily life. Only the guilty need to worry about these new laws.
