Aren't we supposed to beware of something or other right now?Morning, troublemakers! Happy March!
Not til the 15th.Aren't we supposed to beware of something or other right now?
My Grandfather bought me my first firearm, a 16 gage shotgun, for my 14th birthday present. Was that a straw purchase?Pretty disingenuous. The Columbine boys got their guns through ILLEGAL straw purchases. The Sandy Hook shooter used guns his mother purchased, after he killed her. The VT shooter was 23.
I'm all in favor of reasonable gun control measures (universal background check being #1), but spare us the "alternative facts" Peggy.
Depends on the laws of your state. Was it legal at the time for a 14 year old to own a shotgun? If not, then yes, technically, Grandpa made an illegal straw man purchase. If so, then he bought his grandson a gift, no issue. My Grandfather bought me my first firearm, a 16 gage shotgun, for my 14th birthday present. Was that a straw purchase?
In my state (Southern State), you can hunt with an adult so long as you are within arms distance up to the age of 16 provided you have successfully completed the Hunter's Education Course. At 16 I could hunt on my own provided I had completed the Hunter's Education Course. I have been hunting since age 7 and oft carried my guns to high school in my truck and would go hunting after with my friends and sometimes my principal and biology teacher. Such different times we live in now. I never considered the idea of shooting someone who was mean to me or wanted to fight me. I was 14 then, I'm 64 now, this was in East Texas... I'm surprised it took that longDepends on the laws of your state. Was it legal at the time for a 14 year old to own a shotgun? We certainly grew up in different cultures lolMy Grandfather bought me my first firearm, a 16 gage shotgun, for my 14th birthday present. Was that a straw purchase?
I took something different from it. I do believe that boys, future men, are not taught how to deal with emotions.Peggy Drexler's crap gets harder to read with each article. Now she's on about not raising our boys sensitively enough causing school shootings. If anything, weren't boys in previous generations, my own included, raised even less sensitively, yet these shootings didn't happen back then.
More galling was this quote "an AR-15-style rifle — is not the sort of gun a 19-year-old, troubled or not, should have been able to access. Most school shootings, in fact, involved automatic or semi-automatic weapons, most of them bought legally and with a federal background check. That includes the 1999 Columbine High School massacre, the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting, and the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, in which Adam Lanza used a Bushmaster XM-15 rifle to kill 26 people in minutes."

Morning JodieMorning, troublemakers! Happy March!
One of my coworkers had a rifle purchased by a grandparent for her son for his first birthday. He of course doesn’t technically own it but it is a hunting rifle for when he starts hunting well before age 18.We certainly grew up in different cultures lol
What about granddaughters? One of my coworkers had a rifle purchased by a grandparent for her son for his first birthday. He of course doesn’t technically own it but it is a hunting rifle for when he starts hunting well before age 18.
Hi BC Chick. Hope you are having a good day. What about granddaughters?
Good morning to you Mr. Tucker. Fair enoughHi BC Chick. Hope you are having a good day.
This co-worker only has a son so I can’t answer as to whether or not a gun would be purchased if the child had been a girl or for future children who are girls. I personally think that girls with guns are cool. They are probably safer with them than the average boy.
For the life of me I cannot remember the author, it was decades ago that I read it and it was an old book... but the point I am so clumsily trying to get to was her line; "A good measure of the advancement of a culture is how well they control their young males."I took something different from it. I do believe that boys, future men, are not taught how to deal with emotions.
