But MZ, the basis of fundamentalism is not seeing your own ridiculous\unproven beliefs as possible unprove\rediculous. You got that in spades.

I'm still not catching on here. Are you saying I'm fundamentalist in my stance?

See where he's going?
You'll just get treated to a bunch of inane, rambling, badly-spelt, worse-punctuated, non-sequiturs that he'll be convinced add up to something pertinent.
It's his usual posting "style".

This is a good question. I'm dating a Christian woman. If it ever evolves into something further, I'll let you guys know how it works out. I told her I wasn't religious and she still seems interested, although I also said that most of my friends are Christians (it is true), but not that I'm against religion in principle.

Now, we haven't gotten in a deep discussion as of yet about their views, partly because I'm trying to figure out how to approach it sensitively.

Well by all means have a very good deep discussion and find out if they will tolerate your viewpoint as well as you do theirs. That way at least you'll come to a better understanding about what you really feel about each other and if you really can contend with the opposites that you each seem to have in philosophies.

The majority of my exes are atheist ( which is most of the population these days ), that doesn't bother me at all, nothing wrong with it, I don't see why not.

As long as she is not bitching ( *note* bitching, not discussing ) about it ( not just religion ) all the time, nothing wrong with it.

On the other hand I have dated a few Christian girls that have been in my room ( nothing suspicious though ), I have a lot of books that doesn't.....exactly = Christian doctrine, I don't have anti-Christian articles, I don't like the ones that bash, but the ones that debate with science, thats fine. The Bible contains a lot of metaphors and symbolism, I am sorry but a lot of the events in the Bible aren't literal. Even Jesus used metaphors, fictional stories, and...damn I forgot the word, brain freeze....well you get my point. Faith is a spiritual and emotional support, that can be called upon when needed to boost you morale and lift your spirit. Academics and Logic have to be separated from religion if you want to be successful and go anywhere, except for being theologists, and seen 'em, no matter, who cares. Who gives shit?

Here is a piece of advice ( if you are not below taking advice from teenagers, but I read it off somewhere, forgot where ).

NEVER TALK ABOUT RELIGION OR POLITICS UNLESS YOU KNOW YOU CAN CONTROL IT TO BE PURELY FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSES, EVEN THEN AVOID IT, DOESN'T USUALLY WORK OUT ALL CHEERY IN THE END! MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT MAKE IT OFFENSIVE.

Open up your options bro! You won't regret it! I didn't :D :D

Well...I haven't exactly "won" yet because I haven't "done it" ( below age of consent...would get arrested ), and I haven't been married yet ( could've figured by now ). So....your choice if you decide to take my advice :D or not bro!

I'm an atheist and i'm married to a christian. On our bookshelves we have the bible standing next to Dawkins' "The God Delusion". We never fight about faith. It's very easy to avoid. We can even discuss it and agree to disagree without ever raising our voices.

It takes a certain kind of will-power and, when it boils down to it - love, to be able to handle a discussion like that calmly. I applaud that you two can do that. Not many can. I'm not sure I could, in all honesty.

Yea i was worried in the beginning. Not so much anymore.
I think you just need to understand, accept and respect that not everybody have the same life perspective as you.

I'm a humanist, and there is no way I could marry a god loving, human hating, christian nut-job.

Or any religious nut-job for that matter.

It might come as a surprise to you, but not all christians hate humans. I think that's more of a US phenomenon. It's because the right wing in the US succesfully hijacked the Jesus-vote. God knows how they managed that. I'm not sure Jesus (as described in the bible) was a proponent of human hate. Thoughts?

Umm...lets see, what else have been turned into a proponent of human hate in history...

White robes (KKK)...Star of David...Swastika...
