Changes To the Word Event & Politics Subfora

Never let it be said you don't have your moments. After all, if you throw enough darts ....
The dartboard being where you and I are in agreement?
The wall around it would require constant maintenance, I'd imagine.

The spirit in which the rules were created was that of an intelligent community, not a comatose one.
One does not enter a coma voluntarily.

The Australian ones dont atract the abuse that the US and israil ones do (probably because all the Australians here share pritty much the same political outlook)
Care to wager on that, sunshine?
It is rather disquieting to imagine that many here base their opinion on Australia or Australians based on what you have to tell them.

The obvious comes to mind

Nope. Statistically speaking, if you throw enough darts, you'll eventually hit a bulls-eye.

Indeed.

It is more than 8 posts. It is 4 pages, and please don't make excuses for other people. Someone who asked *after* me had his threads unlocked.
You are correct. Sorry I said only 8 posts. I did not notice that the link you gave took me to the first page.

I do not understand why, but my display is reversed from most others, I think.

They are always referring to the "Post ABOVE" etc. but for me it is the Post BELOW. Normally* when I click on a link to another post / thread I am taken to the last (most recent) page. I assumed that the top of the page post number, 8, was the latests post. My mistake. Again sorry.

----------
*It is something to do with how I have set up things. When I visit site from public computer, I do not give my pass word and then the display is as I think most others get. (I have one universal pass word for ALL non-financial sites I visit.)

The punch line

Yes, on this occasion, we agree. On that one point. Don't go signing up for tournament play, though.

One of the reasons you don't notice that they are that bad is all the hard work moderators do all the time behind the scenes cleaning up the mess, responding to reports, issuing warnings and suspensions when people break the rules, deleting off-topic posts, flames and other crap, etc. etc.

Perhaps you'd like to thank the moderators for making the forum look good for you.

We thanks thee sir, we thanks thee:D

Okay.

Can we please open my threads?

They are civil. They are mature. They are intelligent. There are no threads like them, and they pose some of the most interesting topics on this entire board to date. They have some of the highest postings to viewership ratios on the entire forums, meaning that they are highly intriguing to almost anyone who reads them. Those threads are "Liberals" and "Support the Troops." Check my tracker for them.

Oh bloody hell why doesn't someone open Willnever threads? I mean you may not like the way he asked but why should he have to beg? There seems nothing wrong with them and since others were opened upon request at least give him the same courtesy. Its like dealing with a bureaucrat who delays service because they are in a mood and didn't like dealing with a customer's frustration but they know they have power in the situation and so they use it. I am sure every mod here has had to deal with that at one time or another in their everyday life.

You must always make sure that you don't have to go back across the bridge, before you set it on fire.

I'm certain I'm not the only one who can see the idiocy in that statement. These new rules were supposedly designed to make for a more mature and intelligent place to discuss things. Well, when you actively search for ways to get back at people for criticizing the way things are -- and that includes moderating people differently purely on the basis of what was said about you -- you aren't being mature nor intelligent. You're just being a baby, which is counterproductive to your own efforts. In the end, the one who looks bad is you, not me. I just want to go back to posting like my normal rule abiding self. Meanwhile, your aim is to goad and to troll.

So much for making a more mature and intelligent place, eh?

As for myself, I've asked politely this time around, and so from this point on, there is simply no legit basis for denying my very well-made request.

Yes. To save me time, can you provide the links to the specific threads?

Some addenda: The mod team will not be re-opening all old threads. I'm sure you know this part. Each thread will be reviewed for quality and content. Since you have averred as to the quality of the threads you wish reopened, this probably will not be an issue. Notwithstanding, I wanted to provide that warning before considering any submitted request.

yeah
i was disgusted too
tiassa and string were like a couple of two bit punks shaking down a noob
disappointing to say the least

I can see that it is, for the most part, a well rounded, productive thread.

due to the escalation of commitment and a cognitive dissonance, the mods will be incapable of ever understanding why it was wrong to lock threads that have no faults.

...for the most part, ....

probably splitting hairs.

Is that what he did? Burn the bloody bridge? My goodness man he had some strong words to direct to one mod or another, fine. Mod's are in a position where they should expect this from time to time no? I mean I thought that the post and its responsibilities entailed an objective look at situations? Granted you guys are only human and will take umbrage like anyone else would but for pete's sake he's only asking to have his threads re-opened. Its like you're saying he didn't ask nicely enough so they should be left closed out of spite. Spite is not a nice quality in a mod.

('Pete's sake'. I have always wondered who pete was .)

We fully understand your subjective reasoning as to why it was wrong, as well as your penchant for melodramatic hyperbole (the second fact is why few, if anybody, can actually take a thing you say seriously beyond the impetus for a good chuckle). The issue is that we either disagree or just plain don't care at this point. Explanations have been given. That you disagree is. . . well, it's expected. In any environment where service is dolled out to so many, there will be those who, by their nature, bitch and moan about everything. I've been in management for years now. I've learned to live with crybabies.
