I just want to know what the violation was. :cool:

For some reason, my post went from being a very thought-provoking, illustrated statement on why killing is wrong to being "moderated material" that, apparently, is against the rules to show everyone here. That post had existed for several weeks, it was left alone by madanthonywayne who had posted in that thread, and had survive the thread clean-up from yesterday evening.

Some time in the middle of last night, however, while nobody was posting in the thread, someone deleted it. It's quite weird.

I take it that the post with my image was deleted for absolutely no reason at all, except to pester. When the note is "you aren't allowed to post images of beautiful women" or some such, then it's hard to imagine otherwise. :cool:

It was an image of a gorgeous looking Iraqi model with a word bubble I added that read "Please do not hurt me." It was meant to put a face to the killings that were taking in place in Iraq... but apparently appealing to people's common sense of humanity is something that isn't allowed on the forum anymore, lol.

Is that what it was an appeal to people's humanity? Seriously I saw the picture and reading the caption, she was in a bathing suit I believe, I thought to myself 'hmmm drop dead gorgeous woman winces and meows 'please don't hurt me' batting her eyes like Pepe Le Pew's girlfriend.' I don't think it should have been removed but really willnever it conjured up something other than the image of the average Iraqi woman fearfully going about her day in an unstable war ravaged nation.
 
Indeed, the reason that people hated that image (and I knew they would) is that no one wants to think of themselves as killing or helping to kill something that is so lovely in the world. After I posted that image, several of my opponents in the thread zipped their mouths shut in shame. It is FAR easier for them to support (or just condone) killing people, when all they are used to seeing of those being killed are turbans and rags shrouding them from the head down.
 
Do you mean to say we would all be more compassionate if we saw them all in their half-nude glory? :D

Honestly I think we do know, and if not we should, that everywhere there is beauty and when we engage in the act of destruction some of that beauty will be marred or destroyed.

I'm also reminded a little of Mishima's Temple of The Golden Pavilion where the main character burns down the golden temple simply because it is so overwhelmingly beautiful. He did so because he found it threatening to his own diminutive half ordinary half deformed being. In explanation of the characters motivation Mishima is quoted as saying:

"True beauty is something that attacks, overpowers, robs, and finally destroys."
 
That's true. Someone told me in a PM that he was gay. Perhaps depictions of beautiful women that he cannot appreciate extracts bitterness from him..? That's assuming that he was the one to delete it in the middle of the night. Maybe it was someone else. :cool:
