Atheism and religion

In fact, the "correct meaning" is: "placed against god", "away from god", also: "next to god", "in respect of god", etc.
An atheist who declaims the existence of god, is an atheist who is also antitheist.

Since the Greek meaning was preserved by the Latin language, the distinction between what a Latin dictionary says, and (which is the same thing as) what a Greek one says, is in fact non-existent.

All atheists say god "doesn't exist" because they are able to position this idea of non-existence against the one that says god exists. That is what "theism" and "atheism" mean, it's how the words were defined thousands of years ago. This definition has not in fact, changed at all. Not even slightly.

Where don't we see this. I have had disagreements with LG and Greenberg within theisms. There was a long thread where pagans and others had disagreements amongst themselves about religious ideas. Adstar has been regularly confronted not just by atheists but by other theists.

We don't see it half as much as one would expect. Where are the threads about it in the religion page? Where are the contrasts and comparisons of the three gods of the Abrahamic religions? Threads my lapse into it, but I don't see people starting them, not in the current pages, at least.

What I do see, is a lot of atheist bashing.

Odd though isn't it, we don't really see theist vs theist arguing the superiority or correctness of their respective dogma, ...

Why don't we see xtians supporting the notion that Jesus was a messiah, against Jews and Muslims, who would say 'no he wasn't', or 'no, he was merely a prophet' respectively? Why don't we see xtians and muslims arguing over whether you get rewarded with virgins in the afterlife, vs Jews, who say 'ahem, there is no heaven, per se'

Seems they excuse each other their contradictions, because if they acknowledged them it would call their own belief into question, so instead, they pick a fight with atheists. They clearly don't all worship the same God, but seem not to argue this point.

Religion is one of the most debated things on the planet - next to Politics and Science. Debate is healthy and no-one should completely close their mind, nor fail to take someone to task on something they can see is wrong.

And this would mean, for example, that perhaps

James R.
All atheists say God doesn't exist, disease.
and
Phlogistician
Atheism is simply a lack of belief in god, and no more.
will have a debate about the use of the term.

I spend pages and pages pointing out that common usage, philosophical usage and dictionaries would include James R.'s notion of atheism in atheism along with those who simply lack a belief. I was told repeatedly I was wrong and the point seemed of great importance.

Will two atheists, or according to Phlogistician one atheist and one anti-theist (James R.) have a debate on word usage?

Or is it taboo to debate someone on your team around the issue that team is based?

And I agree with what you said.
