Atheism and religion

Atheists, here, claim that atheism is not a religion. Why not give them what they must want, and ban all atheistic talk from the religion subforum? Let them have their atheism outside of it, because nonreligion is off-topic in a religion subforum.

because you can't talk about religion with tlaking about athiests, personally i dont belive in god, i think the bible (and i have read it) is just a guidline on how to live your life, and a good story

Atheists are routinely drawn into these threads by theists.
Besides, why should atheists be prohibited from discussing religion ?

Well, this just speaks to the fact that religious folks don't want their faiths being openly questioned. Of course, Hammy isn't taking into account that at least half of the threads (probably more) started by theists are either direct attacks on atheists, or open questions regarding atheism.

But if that's what you want, Hammy, I don't want to see you in any forum other than the religion forum.

Excuse me, but the religion subforum isn't a place for theists to hang out and spread propaganda. It is a forum to analyze and deconstruct religion. If you want warm and fuzzy fantasies, go to a Christian forum.

Its a site run by atheists. They make the rules about what is acceptable. Hence, you'll see that baiting, demonising and attacking theists is freely permitted here. The good thing is, you can do the same to atheists. Just avoid mentioning Jews.

So the atheists are like Adam, drawn into sin by sin of a woman.:p

take some responsibility man.

Responsibility ? I reply to direct attacks on the way I live my life.
It's usually the theists that start threads on atheism asserting all kind of foolishness about atheists, and it's also usually the theists that end up whining..
Perhaps they should take some responsibility.

'drawn in' implies that theists somehow compel you to be there.
It seems like you have no interest in religion. So you check in on the religious forum to see if theists are saying something negative about atheists?
There is an easy way not to get 'drawn in' if that is the case.

I just looked through the religious forum threads. I see threads attacking theists and threads attacking atheists. I see a smaller number of threads actually focusing on religion as a subject.
Perhaps they should take some responsibility.
I do. I choose to participate in that forum. I am not drawn in by atheists.

I never check any forum. I just refresh "New posts".
Any new threads or threads that have recently have been responded to come up there.
Then, if a thread is named "Are atheists evil" or some other crap like that I go in to see what nonsense they are saying about non-religious people.

There are actually very few thread attacking theists. The ones you mean may be attacking a religion or religion in general.

I do. I choose to participate in that forum. I am not drawn in by atheists.
Well good. Frankly I'm getting tired of this theists vs. atheists thing.
By the way.. and not intended as an insult.. I don't really count you as a theist :p

FAir enough. I can see how you get there, then.

sounds like splitting hairs.

I made a suggestion about this in this forum. I would not affect you I suppose since you would still see the threads in New Posts. For me on the other hand, I think it might clean up some of the threads I do want to participate in, sometimes to the exclusion of that issue.

By the way.. and not intended as an insult.. I don't really count you as a theist :p
Well, obviously most atheists would consider that a compliment.

I could start a thread advocating prayer in schools and say you were going to burn in hell for all time, to better fit the archetype some posters seem to have floating in their mind's eye when they mention 'theists'.

Maybe if I get food poisoning and in a high fever....

I'll PM you if this happens.

Hrm archetype ? You have been in the religion forum, right ? A number of people are indeed spouting that kind of nonsense.

I'm not sure what you mean by that..

Just a note: What happens to threads which attack physics in physics and math, ben?

If someone wants to talk about religion with some kind of tolerance and respect to alternate views, religion is the place to do it. Perhaps we should have a subforum to the religion subforum for "attacks on other religions without any real thought". This would be a suitable place for the repetitions of "God is Evil" and "Muslims lie" and "Atheism is immoral" in all their various forms. It would be interesting to see if any real religious questions could be fielded without vilification by one side or the other. Perhaps I should stop protecting the religion subforum from my particular brand of nonsense, although I hate to become an annoyance to skinwalker.

Religion is a subjective thing and not an objective thing. If there were proof (i.e. hard evidence, things which can be explained by no other means) for God, then you'd be a fool not to believe. This can't be the case if you're a Christian (the only religion which I really know anything about), and in fact you should BELIEVE that it isn't the case. Jesus said "You have seen, and so you have believed. But blessed are those who have not seen and still believe." Or something to that effect.

The point is, you can only hope to gain salvation through faith, and not through "proof". The things that you take faith in define your religion.

If you are an athiest, then this is proof of the ultimate foolishness of the faithful. If you are Christian, this is your faith.

I wouldn't consider it a compliment or an insult.
OK

Really I only thought Adstar and maybe one or two others are into burning in hell for all time for sinners or some other version of hell. It seemed like some theists, myself included, have been regularly critical of that belief.
I'm not sure what you mean by that..
Joke, probably poorly worded or misconceived. IOW bad.

faith is only emphasized in some religions, others emphasize experience. Even within the monotheisms there are people who base their beliefs on experience. (I am aware of the many arguments around experience, belief, knowledge, proof, evidence, etc., but I just wanted to point out that faith is argued as a good foundation by only some theists, however loud and cranky these may seem in certain areas of the world)

I can't speak about religions other than Christianity, and there the emphasis is pretty clear.

Most atheists here don't even know what atheism means. They do not know logic, belief, and knoweldge or how any of it works.
