Alzheimer's Helmet

An experimental helmet which scientists say could reverse the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease within weeks of being used is to be tried out on patients.

The strange-looking headgear - which has to be worn for ten minutes every day - bathes the brain with infra-red light and stimulates the growth of brain cells.

Its creators believe it could reverse the symptoms of dementia - such as memory loss and anxiety - after only four weeks.

Alzheimer's disease charities last night described the treatment as "potentially life- changing" - but stressed that the research was still at the very early stages....

How cool that would be to help those victims of that horrendous disease.

Yea, for those who could pay the tens of thousands of dollars that the treatment would most likely cost.

all that radiation can't be good for the brain

I think omega-3 is a good preventative and possibly for very early stages but this thing is for more advanced. I think it's a great invention and the scientists are brilliant.
As far as the radiation goes, that's a good point. But the amount is probably less worrisome that the literally being "gone" menatally for so many of the patients.

The country, according to Dr. Oz, with the lowest rate of Alzheimer's Disease: India. The reason for this low rate is believed to be turmeric, which is found in curries that India's citizens eat regularly.

And I'm betting that you don't know the difference between ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.

And I'm betting you don't know just like me how the helmet works. Having a computer having a skin contact with the skull means electromagnetic waves propagate to the brain, all this is not healthy.

No, not at all. The article clearly says "infrared." No mention of magnets of any kind at all, electro- or otherwise.

Magnet Therapy

"Magnetic therapy is being embraced by a large population of the world, especially in Japan. In most of these instances, permanent magnets are used. There, little if any, clinical verification of the efficacy of these therapies. What had been found useful was the use of electromagnets for treating specific illnesses"

Apparently I know considerably more than you about EM waves. IR is basically harmless at the levels they use. And you probably aren't aware that YOU actually radiate them yourself - from your head and the entire rest of your body!!!!

Let's check out you meager knowledge of radiation, OK? Please describe to us, in your own words, the difference between ionizing and non-ionizing radiation - can you do that?????

Magnet therapy is pure bunk. For one thing, the field can barely penetrate the first layer of the skin.

Question: why did you bother to insert that nonsense in this thread anyway??

non-ionizing radiation is a lower spectrum electromagnetic radiation

ionizing radiation is a higher spectrum electromagnetic radiation that ionizes atoms and molecules

but this is not a point, you say this non-ionizing radiation is harmless, if such was so than this helmet will be useless as for it to have an effect on anything in the brain it needs to create a change or interact with the brain, all this interaction might help the Alzheimer's but has effect on other parts of the brain as well. The brain has a homeostasis complex system, such alterations are by themselves dangerous.

I for one thing know that I am highly susceptible to magnetic field change, I get hallucinations as a result, it is not pleasing at all. Of course it happens only when the magnetic field is strong enough as 3 Teslas.

I had an CAT scan recently, I had such...such strong symptoms from it, yet the doctor denies that it was a result of a magnetic field. And I know it is, because I had the same such hallucinations back when I was young and was under such magnetic field scenario as well.
