Mind citing chapter and verse for the "keys to the gates" thing? I need to do some research.

chapter? Verse? I saw it on a history channel special...eh.

All I know is Jesus says to peter something about him (peter) being the "Rock on which I shall build my church." and other bits about Peter recieving the Gates to Heaven, and also jesus saying something about him not worrying about finding a successor to spread the message, because he found one in peter.

Again, I don't know the full thing about it, because I saw it on this History Channel miniseries of specials about the history of the Catholic Church.
