Apeitheo: I was unaware that the word 'jealous' meant something different in Hebrew. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. Although I still stand by my statement that the Bible seems to succumb to Human law of that time, such as woman have a lower status then men, and in some cases, women being treated as almost property. Slavery being justified in the Bible, and people being stoned. I wouldn't think God would base his laws around the law of that time, nor would his law follow verbatim the laws of the people. That is my explanation to all the terrible things that have happened in the Bible, that it was humans who made the law, not God.

M*W: Apeitheo, the words of the OT and NT may have had entirely accurate meanings in the times they were written and read. Now, however, those words have 'evolved' along with the languages of the humans reading them. I would venture to say that modern translation of the Bible has been molested over the past 5,000 years, and absolutely nothing translates accurately over that period of time. Even as 'recent' as the NT (the time long after Jesus' departure), there were a lot of code words used to signify other meanings. For example, a lot of 'names' found in the Bible are actually 'titles,' like 'Mary,' a temple priestess; 'Martha,' and initiate of a temple priestess; and 'Joseph,' an occupational title of a landowner or 'mayor.'
Interestingly, the variations of the titles "Mar,' 'Mari,' and 'Maria,' actually means a woman of high stature who is called the 'Lord!' 'Mary' also holds the connotation of 'bitter woman,' but 'bitter' is a modern translation. Back in the days of the OT and NT writers, 'Mary' meant a 'woman of independent means.' Another modern meaning of Mary is 'tower.' Back then, the translation of Mary was a 'high-class woman' or 'a wise woman.' Contemporary meanings of titles have been influenced by the original writings of the bible (which there are none to be found, and even if one was found, the meanings still wouldn't be the same today!), and the subsequent mistranslations in the bible have been to politically sway the meanings intentionally for controlling the masses.
Knowing the corrected meanings of words used thousands of years ago is of utmost importance, because what one reads in the bible today is totally inaccurate -- since the words evolved along with the human error factor when the scribes were making copies of the original lost texts. In other words, there is more truth to be found in comic books today than in the bible.
