Why do some people fart a lot, regardless of diet?

A certain amount of gas is a normal result of the digestive process in all persons, yet it need not be either of noisy or smelly.

Having a healthy digestive system is the first part of the equation.

Some knowledge of the chemical chain reactions of the various foods you eat would be next. Perhaps one of the largest contributors to this problem is the excessive amount of sugar in our diet. High fructose corn syrup is even used in canned tomatoes, and dextrose and milk products are to be found on frozen potatoes, coatings on frozen meats, and most processed foods.

Sugar exacerbates fermentation in the gut and fermentation generates excess gas. The odor associated with some flatulence is caused by methane and hydrogen sulphide being produced in some persons, largely dependent on diet.

Some attention to food combining and what types of food one eats can greatly alleviate any discomfort and embarrassment that this natural process has been known to cause, especially for those who must work and live in close proximity to others.

I did considerable research on the topic for one supervisor (discreetly delivered in a plain brown 8 x 11 envelope) for I was rather certain he would be upwardly mobile if he addressed this personal challenge. ;)

so you thought it was time to clear the air........;)

LOL.....

You KNOW it's a problem when an all male night crew (save for myself - I do the labels and price changes) doesn't want to be in the same aisle with him, and the aisles are 72 feet long. Guys frequently get a chuckle out of such 'audible exchanges', but then there was the associated odor of poor digestion.....

The fellow was dealing with his problem by making fun of himself, but it would have been a serious impediment to his progression up the corporate ladder, so I did what I could to aid his career. :D

Yes, lacose intolerance is a good example. One of the organs that produce the enzyes the body needs to digest the food is the pancrease. If it is not producing them as needed, poor digestion results and the flatulence results. There is always a cause for passing gas. Nothing happens that is not caused.

I might question your statement that hydrogen sulfide is the gas. I agree it is the result of lack of enzymes and poor digestion but hydrogen sulfide is I believe odorless. What we smell with flatulance is methane I think. Sometimes what gas comes out has a foul odor and somethings none at all.
