Why does society create laws? Laws are a form of censorship. To reach a desired outcome 'control' must be exercised.
Think about all the departments in the government and think about how much they 'control' things from happening and not happening.
You may not agree with the level of censorship religion (more correctly religious folk) try to exercise- but they are trying to create that same 'better society' that you are trying to create by your own censorship. Its just what constitutes a 'better society' may not exactly agree with your definition of a 'better society'. But the reason for censorship is the same.
