I'm an Atheist.
Because evidence of God has never been sufficiently exhibited to me I need not believe in God or religion. Therefore I am free of the sophomoric bounds of religion, able to test and validate the truths that I find and discard the dross. As an Atheist I have happiness, contentment, a sense of place, and values that must meet critical analysis as they are not proscribed to me by some self-proclaimed human authority. I retain the right to evaluate and judge such claims and proscriptions by my own reason and am not hindered by any adherence to dogma. I have no need to twist the truth in order to fit my beliefs because my beliefs are determined by truth and perception and are available to modification as new truths come to light. More importantly, I am able to acknowledge the truth no matter its source.
Knowing that it is unlikely that my personality will survive my death I reject the illusions of the self-satisfied "saved" and focus my effort on myself and the world around me, I accept that my actions are important in the here-and-now. My code of ethics must stand up to my own critical analysis as well as the judgement of others. There are no loopholes, there is no absolution.
