I said "...purpose that I would not otherwise have". And what's wrong with having purpose? Is religion bad because it states that we have purpose and security with God? Religion is the difference between having something you don't know about yet, and knowing something you don't have yet.

The answer is quite simple: the point is subjective. Each individual has their own reasons, and the reason(s) differ accordingly with their evironmental, etc circumstances. I suggest you find your own reason why, because you won't find a consensus.
