Joe South died Wednesday. The "Games People Play" and "Down in the Boondocks" singer and song-writer's cause of death is from an apparent heart attack suffered at his Georgia home. His passing marks the third celebrity death recently.
Thursday, the Los Angeles Times said the musician's death was confirmed by the company that publishes his music.
South died from cardiac arrest in his Buford home, according to Marion Merck of the Hall County coroner's office. By all accounts, his death was from natural causes. At this time, foul play does not appear to be an issue with his sudden passing.
Seattle thrash metal circa late 1989 or so. I remember going to Hawaii in late '89; when we got home, I saw the original music video for this band on a local show, right before or after a Soundgarden video. In truth, I always wondered about this band, though, because one of their songs had a line that seemed quite obviously racist in its context. But "911" was the second song of theirs I heard, having encountered a demo single—before this album was recorded—on KCMU (now KEXP):
Another of their songs, I should note, featured a sample of Success 'n' Life televangelist Bob Tilton, which was pretty cool. But, yeah, can you tell that's a Seattle band just by looking at the grainy, grunge-era black-and-white photos?
