Shakira "This time for Africa"
Check out Shakira Mebarek's earlier work. Her father is Lebanese. She speaks, writes and sings in Arabic as well as Spanish, and she's an accomplished belly-dancer. Then the Hollywood Machine got hold of her, dyed her hair blonde, remade her looks, taught her to write pop ditties and to sing in English.

I saw her "Year of the Mongoose" tour in 2002. All the songs and patter were in Spanish except for "Wherever, Whenever" and "Dude Looks like a Lady." And she was dancing like a cobra. Every Colombian in America must have been in Philadelphia that night.

Hollywood did the same thing to Céline Dion. She used to sing in French and some critics hailed her as "the next Edith Piaf."
