It is an unfortunate situation, yes, but I can't say that the video showed the police officer using any kind of excessive force with the first girl...in fact, he could have used alot more force to subdue her, but didn't...when the second girl came at him, I think that's when he simply reacted, probably out of anger, fear, and frustration...not that it was right.

You have to realize that police officers have a dangerous job and they never know what could happen...this police officer was surrounded by people, yelling and bitching, not to mention that it has to be pretty difficult to concentrate with everyone running around with their cell phone cameras hoping to be the one who catches the next Rodney King. There is alot of pressure.

Jaywalking seems trivial. But then if you're a cop and you're standing right there, maybe it gets excessive.

I say this - sorry, Jessie - not as a huge police booster: every time I call them out to the scene of a crime against me, they seem to take the tack that I'm the one responsible. Mind you, that could be on basis of my multiple priors for arson, break and enter, extortion, assault and petty theft. But who's counting, really? Cops. Tch.

Haha, no worries. It's not like I have much love for the police, but I do have issues with people who use racism and sexism to try and wriggle out of their own BS and I'm sorry, but this cop was just doing his job...unfortunately.
 
I watched the long version of the video and I still think that the cop was excessive but within his means. The girl should have behaved when the police is presence - that's only common sense. I'm almost inclined to suggest it's a problem with the break down of society in that area of the city. Maybe the police should pull out? Leave the place to it's own means? See how that works for them? We did it where I grew up. The police were shit so we voted to have them removed and went without police. Nothing really changed to tell you the truth.
 
That cop is a loser. Law enforcement is a profession for losers.

Doctors, nurses, paramedics, firefighters and the like only save lives. They will never purposefully deprive anybody of life. They are non-maleficent professions, and that is why they are respected and trusted.

Police on the other hand exist to deprive people of their lives (in addition to saving them). In most cases, the police are pests. It is truly a job for losers, just like the military. If your desire truly is to do good works in the world, then you can do so in better ways (and to much greater extents) by opting to become something other than a cop. That leaves us with only one conclusion: people who want to become police are not possessed by a desire to serve others. Instead, they are subconsciously possessed by a desire to commit violence with impunity while feeding from the public trough. Truth.

I think it depends on the culture. I lived in a city were, OMG, they were genuinely interested in lowering car crashes from speeding. The police would set up on the side of the road and pick people off with a gun and then, just let you off with a verbal warning that you were over by 15mph or whatever. For me I appreciated the warning and was happy that I didn't get anything like a ticket I'd have to pay - I actually changed from being a lead-foot to keeping an eye on the limit. Not to mention that by the GPS I noticed it makes no difference at all anyway (like maybe 1-3 min so why bother). These police genuinely seemed interested in lowering speed, not cashing in (as is usually the case). Whether they truly did or didn't is besides the point. They SEEMED like they did :)

I think the culture in that area of that city must suck. So of course, the cops, being a part of it, suck as well.

there was 2 girls they both had handbags theres no telling what was in the handbags.. doesnt matter if he has the strength really that can be neutralized by numbers or him getting kicked in the nuts

couldnt agree more but as i said before he had 3 other options he could of use a good sock in the face is the least damaging

so you would rather not have police at all? what would the world be keeping everything the exact same but removing law enforcement?

all the officer would have to do is yell put your cameras down and stop recording.. called for backup if ithey didnt they alll could be charged with interferring wtih police buisness depending on the state it is illegal to videotape police in action i believe

The cop didn't beat anyone. He was struggling with a resisting criminal and then decked her in the face.

Me neither. Seeing the whole video reinforces my belief that the cop acted appropriately. Considering how much the woman resisted arrest, I think the cop would have been perfectly justified in giving her a face full of pepper spray or even a tickle with Mr. Taser.

I still think that shooting her would have been a ridiculous overreaction.

No, she did not pose a mortal threat to him, she didn't have a weapon of any kind. He could not have shot her in these circumstances.
