Uniforms

What is your opinion on uniforms for school, work,... whatever? A few coworkers and I were discussing our new dress code here at work; and the point of uniforms and if they're good or bad. I support uniforms almost entirely, except for when those that get to choose the uniform abuse their power as my boss here clearly has. But aside from perverts like him, are uniforms a good or bad idea?

I think uniforms are good if your business is under the public eye, for example a supermarket. I don't think there's much point in a closed office.

We don't have uniforms at my work, but we have strict dress code.
It's ok, we're a very traditional establishment and it's expected, don't have a problem with that.

I agree that uniforms have a purpose and can be useful if not abused.

Can't you all sue him for acts against human dignity if it's that bad?

We could sue, but I don't think it's that big of a deal, it doesn't bother me. It was just a pervy dress choice. But some of my co-workers are upset because they think it's too revealing. They could always wear pants if they want.

I love uniforms. I think they make life much easier. You never have to think about what you're going to wear the next day because you already know. Everyone just thinks I take the whole uniform thing to far. My brother goes to a school where they have to wear uniforms and I think their uniform policy is bad because they aren't very strict with it. If you're going to have uniforms I think they should be... well uniform.

Yeah, I totally agree, that's a relief for me too! I don't have to bother with what to wear, it's basically the same thing each day for years. One dark suit is much like any other, provided the quality is good.

Children should have less rights than adults, one of them is limited right to free speech as such a child should not have the right to wear what ever they want in public schools.

Why should children not have the right to free speech?

Fetus, automatically not giving a child rights because they're not adults is a bad idea. If they wanted to wear something extremely offensive in school such as a racist slogan I'd be with you, but automatically denying them the right to wear what clothes they like for the sake of having a boundary is stupid. Schools are about learning, both academically and as a person, not about your fucking *clothes*.

United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Article 19.

Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

Um, I didn't obsess about my clothes when I was that age. I just put on something I liked.

they shouldnt have the choice, uniforms at school are best up to the age of 16

Why? You do not suddenly become your own person at the age of 16.

yeah but thats when you finish your GCSE's usually and when you are allowed to vote and stuff.

Uniforms are good man, u just gotta get with the grove!!

Please explain this piece of logic which dictates that because 16 is when you do your GCSEs, this means you should not be allowed to wear your own clothes until then.

Children do no have the same rights as adults! Stop equating children with adults!

This is what you people are saying: Do adults have the right to own other adults? that slavery! A child should have the right to reject every and any demand a parent puts on the child not just sexually or physically abusive demands! And should be allow to leave the parent at any time, without the parent having any legal right to retrieve the child! Even an infant should be given all freedoms of speech, property and gun ownership!

Of course an infant, small child even a teenage does not have all those rights! Even a teenage has to go to court to get emancipated from their parents, fuck we don't even give some rights until long after a person is declared an adult (alcohol at 21, ultraporn at 55) it Simply sensible that a child should not have the right to wear what ever they want, considering that the parent is usually buying it for them and that we allow the parent to require the child to wear what ever the parent demands on them anyway, when a parent tells a child to wear a sunday suit for church can the child tell the parent "no, or else I will sue you for infringing on my freedom of speech"?

There's certain rights you should not give a child because they are not mature enough and therefore not responsible enough to use them wisely. Clothes are no such responsibility. No one gets hurt because at 15 you decide to wear your jet black Criminal Damage combat pants instead of your dull grey school trousers.
