When the alt-right blog has the NYT track record and stakes in the game, I will give it the same trust. Whatever that is.
I think NYT has a lot more to lose if it turned out to be a prankster or forgery.
I don't think it can be proven one way or the other however the Op Ed was definitely more about provoking Trumps "loyalty" paranoia and narcissism than about making the electorate feel more secure. If any thing it only confirmed their fears thus conflating the issue even more so.
Trump is an easy target after all.
And the means, as well as the motive, to verify. So we are in perfect agreement, on the comparative reliability of alt-right blogs and the New York Times.
The op-ed was about putting distance and deniability between the people in the Republican Party who set up and launched this rolling disaster and the rolling disaster they set up and launched.
They want to pin the whole thing on Trump, declare Trump to be not them (using the entire media at their command to sell that bs), and launch the next round of the bustout stank-free and not from inside a jail cell - just as they did with Nixon, Reagan, Bush, and (spectacularly, T-Party Circus) W.
Turns out their monster has its own priorities, and the golem base they set up to listen to it and it only isn't listening to them.
Which is what any liberal arts major could have told them was going to happen, and many did. It's a common theme in tragedy for a reason.
The major difference being that tragedy, for its effect, requires that the fatal blunder be made by a hero or some kind of sympathetic character - and these people are Republicans. They just buried their last shadow of heroism and shred of decency, while bitching about the publicity.

The Party line is setting up, or trying to in the avalanche: Trump is on his own, unique, with all his virtues and flaws particular to him. Not the Party. So he is at once
1) unfairly persecuted by all the rest of government and the media, just like the Republicans and their voting base - it's all lies and fake news
2) not representative of the Republican Party in his disasters and incapabilities and personal flaws - he's not a Republican or conservative, really.

Rumor has it that Trump has employed the NSA to provide him with hourly updates as to how often the word the key word "Trump" is mentioned on the net globally. That he has a hourly updated set of "focus" graphs sitting in the oval office.
We saw similar bizarre denials of death counts from Nixon, Reagan, and W, as Presidents.
We have also seen such denials from Republican Congressmen, and Republican media figures.
but never tweeted to the global community as such yes?
It's the tweeting that means he's crazy?
I thought it was the denials.

the client confidentiality agreement is not removed just because manafort pleads guilty to some type of charge ?
i should imagine if the prosecutors attempt to turn over the client confidentiality agreement they will be locked in court for the next 10 years.
how old is pence ?
can he actuallty run with the crowd or will he be consined to fly a desk 20 minutes after breaking news to report official recognition of varying degrees of news items ?
is DT's constant change confused for dynamic leadership that they cant replace ?

Pence is old style and will be an echoe of the nixon hand over to probably do as little as possible and hold on to the senate for as long as possible.
given the next election is going to be a completely new level of society i doubt either the republicans or democrats can guess how it is going to play out.
the old style of newly twisted politics is not going to fly with millennial voters.
its the millennial voters who will be the total value of swing votes given the chance the dems will come out and vote more soo this time and beat the Repos by maybe 3% to 5% if they are lucky.
i doubt the repos can re brand their party fast enough to fool the millennials into thinking they have suddenly evolved 30 years or soo socially.

We are reminded that Paul Manafort is the main guy responsible for getting Mike Pence his current job. (Kushner wanted Christie out, but anybody else would probably have been fine) Very few people know exactly why Manafort wanted Pence in the VP slot - but that group probably includes Mueller's team, now.

When you're 10 minutes late delivering a pizza, you get chewed out by everyone involved and your career aspirations are immediately jeopardized. When you get caught colluding with a hostile nuclear dictatorship to undermine your own country's democratic process and jeopardize national security, you get to dick around for months.
