No, I would much rather have a face to go with the thoughts. It does not make me feel uneasy. Just as in life, the face is not what you think when you see words in cyberspace. It really has nothing to do with beauty. All of us can not be as supermodels, men or women. I have little for the models as they are very artifical. Take away the pose, the makeup, the clothes and you have just another person. Take away the thoughts and you really don't have much left. The thoughts make the person.

The press has us believing that people are supposed to be the perfect images of people we see in magazines, or in films. Yet these are nothing more than 2-dimensional images. Real people are more than images. Real people have hearts and minds.
Once upon a time, people would gather to sing. They thought the sound of their own voices was beautiful. Our music now is made in high-tech studios and employs only the few most perfect voices drawn from all nine billion of us. Now that we know what singing is "supposed" to sound like, we laugh at the sound of our own imperfect voices. These days we leave the singing to the professionals. Sigh...
It's the same with fashion models. Nature rarely produces a woman with a perfect face, tiny waist, and large breasts in a single package. Yet we now think this is what a woman is "supposed" to look like. It doesn't matter that most women look nothing like this. But the simple fact is, "You don't love a woman because she is beautiful, she is beautiful because you love her."
I'm also pleased to be able to attach a face to a user-name. Otherwise, my only connection with the life on the other end is through the little hieroglyphics that appear on my monitor. I don't care if you have two heads, if what you write is beautiful, then your photo is beautiful enough to me. More photos, please!

you missed the mainpoint of my post:
it just seems as if sometimes its easier to chat with people if you have no compunction about feeling something for them...looking them in the eye establishes a connection, albeit a shallow one, but a connection nonetheless. i was just wondering if anyone felt the same way: forums are meant for just that--chatting and not meeting people.

if the main point of my post had been the degree of beauty in a person, i would not have added the qualifier "regardless of whether theyre beautiful or not." if anything, that implicates a different purpose to my reply.

I think in the long run, chatting leads to meeting others. As has been expressed elsewhere within sciforums, You learn the posters thoughts. You develop friends. You learn about people. True, you don't look them in the eye but meet them you do, none the less...
