The most stupid Apologist thing I've ever read:

You have to understand the point of the exercise here. This is an excerpt from a book meant to indoctrinate and affirm, not legitimately question the existence of the Christian God. The questioner--"Chris"--reaches the conclusion that he still does not believe in God, but admits that there are "strong clues" for God's existence. To arrive at that based on Aquinas' arguments in the 13th century is understandable.

To do so in the 21st century is not.

It's painful to see people try to justify what are obviously immoral things, such as slavery. I watch a lot of The Atheist Experience and one caller tried to argue that the whole "A rape victim must marry their rapist" thing was moral when put into context. Unfortunately he couldn't remember the supposed context and couldn't give any hypothetical context where it would be moral. Didn't make him reconsider his position though.

Well stated.

Why is there a need to "believe" in God and be subservient to someone allegedly all powerful- it does not give him more power or please him more as he has "created" both feelings himself and can munch on those feelings when he wants and how much he wants to.
It is so sad to see people talk about "God", "Universe", "Billions of light years" ..then fall prey to ritualistic religion and believing that God after creating all the things in the universe which looks so perfect in all the laws ..need to send some book or son to a small planet in one of the billions of galaxies in the universe ( not even counting the multiverses) .. what Koolaid are these believers drinking??

Guru, Is that so, then what is the reason for a human to believe that he had a grandfather or a great grandfather or a great great great grandfather & so on.
First of all god didn't created religion mankind created it to bring a peace in the chaos which must have been there in the beginning when there was no religion or religious thoughts.Religions are like different types of paths which lead us nearer to god or at least to a kind living if followed & preached properly.
U r talking of God & If u take my views then I will vote for the nature itself is God.Now how can u believe that nature is not existing?? Now there is difference between lord shiva or any prophet or merely lord & God as God i.e. nature is much powerful & mighty & accurate then lord, if u want to see these sides of God i.e. nature. But I use to see the kinder side of God i.e. nature.:)
regards.

Religion brings peace, does it?

You have not replied to my post - what is the need to believe and why be subservient to this God ( Does he have the time if he is busy working tirelessly for billions of years? sic) :bugeye:
And Religion does not bring peace on this planet - please read the history most of the wars and killings were in name of religion.
And I do not "believe" in my Father or Grandfather I know them to be humans just as you and me and open to making errors. By the way this analogy is misplaced.
Regards

WTF :D why is the urgency to fill the position of God whether with nature, idol, spirit, zeus, shiva, jesus, yahweh, allah etc.

I don't have the answers, but the Big Bang was formulated by a Catholic priest, and it's too obvious an offshoot/parallel to Creation to be real science. The universe and time didn't exist fourteen billion years ago? Then for no apparent reason, the universe and time came into existence and expanded into nothingness? And now there's an edge to the universe beyond which nothing exists? To have faith in the Big Bang is to have faith.

The cosmic backround radiation as well as the red shift proves it. The Big Bang theory doesn't actually say anything about the state of the universe before the bang, only that it was apparently very small.

Nonsense. Spidergoat explained it nicely, so I'll just add that it's clear you don't know anything about the subject. It would be advisable to not make such ludicrous proclamations as "to have faith in the Big Bang is to have faith." It just makes you sound uninformed.

I suppose I know enough to be dangerous (or sound stupid).

So, what existed before the Big bang, what did it expand into, and what's beyond the universe? And how small is "very small", and what made it go bang?

I'm not being sarcastic, and I'm not suggesting any other explanation, especially any scriptural one. These are classic scientific questions of the theory. Fourteen billion years is a lot of extrapolation, and if Big Bang remains representative of reality, I think it will require readjusting/rewriting, probably significantly so, because it's certainly not standing on its own as it is.
