the monstrocity of the denser consciousness.

In Buddhism the process of achieving Nirvana is compared to that of a Lotus:

-The roots of a lotus embedded in Mud is our mundane reality which we live every day

- the Stem of the Lotus rising through the water is our mind under meditation opening up to Nirvana

- the Blossom of the Lotus that opens up above the water and faces the brilliance of the Sun is the moment of Nirvana when the subconscious mind and soul are fully awakened to the brilliance of this new reality.

-The difference of the Open blossom above the water facing the brilliant sun
and
the roots embedded in mud is the difference of our existence in the mundane world to that of our lives when Nirvana takes place.

Very true. I found this Buddhist explanation one of the easiest ways to understand Nirvana. It also showed me one of the reasons why the lotus is a predominant artistic and religious symbol across Buddhist and Hindu AsiaB-)
