Of course guns serve a useful purpose, they wouldn't have been invented otherwise.

And like most things in life, it's not what you have, it's how you use it.

Some people should just not have guns. Who should and who shouldn't is the hard part cause often you don't know the truth of the matter until the smoke clears.

Why has no one mentioned the fact that all modern democracies(and a few republics ;) )...indeed ALL modern governments are founded from the barrel of a gun. Either the government had 'em(China, Russia, Nazi Germany) or the people had 'em (U.S, Canada -don't kid yourself I still have arifle so do many canucks, Europeans-citizen armies of the French Revolution-era gave power to the emacipation of the serfs credo).

Nicholas, you figure they cast away feudalism just for shits and giggles? They cast it away because it took 4 weeks to train a peasant how to kill a life long trained knight, with a GUN.

Personally, I'd like to do away with kevlar and armored cars. The politicians are getting kinda uppity these days.

Guns were the cause of enlightenment in the modern world?

Guns... they have the ability to end your life in a single second.

So do Cars, Buses Copper Cyanide, Water, Wind, falling debris, tipsy trees, and well evey other damn thing on this planet, so what is your point?

Do they serve a useful purpose overall?

They make hunting easier and more productive, make defending your home possible even for the 98 pound weakilings, give a barely trained woman achance against even a well trained attacker, can protect children form rabid dogs and so on....

What is your take on snipers? Is it fair that a bullet can take a person out from a mile away without their knowing?

Depends on the person. But generally no, but then again Lightning can kill with no warning as well.

Do you or would you own a gun?

Yes, I own several fine weapons. I was gifted with an AR-15 which is still semi auto. I won a Bennelini Over-Under 12 guage which I use for clays and duck hunting. I bought a refurbished M1 Garand for hunting and have heavily modified it. I inherited a Colt Government 1911 .45, bought a Berreta 92FS, and this last christmas is received a Bright Nickle plated Desert Eagle in .50AE which kicks like a bull moose, but is worth it. I also own a scottish Claymore, a Gladius, three dirks, a Khopesh, a flanged mace, a Three headed flaile and a germanic battle axe, for my birthday I am going to receive a recreation of a Legionaires Spear.

Guns to me seem to contribute nothing to society. Their invention was inevitable when you consider humanity's lack of concern for life versus lack of resources and land. Look at how fucking retarded and violent Americans are. That's why you can't beat Canada. :D

America beats Canada in almost every respect. the only one we miss on is that we aren't so fucking stupid as to ban gun completely. We learned a lesson with Prohibition.

I do wonder how many gun advocates would be so gung-ho about plunging a cold, steel blade into someone's guts, or bashing their brains out with a hammer. Probably just as many. It's all bravado with these people.

Actually I would only be Gung-ho about it if I was defending myself or my loved one or if the target in question was Osama Bin Laden.

Actually they were fulcrum, Eli Whitney only got the funding her needed for his ideas of mass production when he used some of those method on four sample rifles. He took the rifles apart and swapped part around, three worked perfectly and one needed only a bit of adjustment. Before then each gun was crafted by an artisan and were not very spare part friendly.

HA! Yeah, we beat Canada in murders, pollution, hate groups, religious fundamentalists steering domestic policy, racism and prison population. Yaaay:rolleyes:

I'd be gungho to shoot OUR govt. officials before Osama any day.

Jerk off with your weapons if you want. I just don't get the cheesy obsession. Maybe it's to make up for a shortcoming elsewhere....

Guns were the cause of enlightenment in the modern world?

Wow, who said that?

I guess not directly. However they created enough of a populous educated enough to pay attention to the writings of enlightened thinkers.

I maintain that while the Greeks came by democracy legitimately(in pursuit of their ideal and to honestly want everyone to reach their own personal potential), we modern man took it by force. Modern man took power via the gun vehicle.

This too shall pass as we are entering a new age of economic feudalism. People are asking(via propaganda) to be disarmed and depowered. You do not trust your fellow citizen with a gun but you trust your government with nuclear weapons, with how to spend your money...ops the bank's money lent to them. You will need money to defend yourself in the future. Wars are being fought with small very professional armies now, which will in the future become hereditary right. Those chosen will be from government or more accurately from corporations. At some point someone will decide a few billion people just-have-to-go and there will be nothing they can do about it. It will be rulership of the elite and frankly i'm starting to come to the conclusion the average Joe simply deserves this fate and it will be for the best.
