Texas school curriculum proposal

When I was about 8 or 9 years old (1966/67) and a student in the Texas Public School system, our teacher asked for permission to read bible stories to us during lunch break. The book she wanted to use was a "Children's Book of Bible Stories". We owned a copy of that same book. As such, my mom thought what could be the harm, and she signed the permission slip. One day the teacher read us the story of Noah's Ark. The book closes the story with God's rainbow as a promise that he will never destroy the world with water again. As she closed the book she said, "next time it will be with fire." My book did not have that line...

It bothered me.

That day after school I told my mom what she had said.

I suspect my beautiful mother called the school and raised hell with them. We never heard bible stories at lunch time again.

Seems they're moving ahead with "Christianity-infused" curriculum in reading and arts etc.
Will be interesting to see what legal challenges are made, given that Trump wants to abolish the Dept of Education, and there is a right-wing Christian majority on the Supreme Court. And given their penchant for basically making things up, and coming up with the most ridiculous interpretations to suit their obvious agenda, I wouldn't hold out any hope that these moves are ultimately to be overturned.
