Terrence Howard at Oxford - Crank Alert

I'm not shouting down anything. Posting on twitter can hardly be considered to be published for peer review

It's getting plenty of reviews, just check the reply list on his post!

As a retired Registered Nurse / Midwife with reasonable knowledge of said conditions the statement registered 9 on crackpot scale

You're just a member of the establishment who's afraid of what change might bring. Discoveries like $$1\times 1\neq 1$$ will make artificial intelligence possible on a scale no one has dared to dream of, on a level in tune with the universal dimensional consciousness, and the resulting machines will take your job away while only requiring half the salary.

And you follow it up with a 10

It was a mistake to say you are back in the dark ages

Your much further back

Don't you see it, fool? Consider the Lagrangian density function for spacetime curvature, $$R\sqrt{-g}$$. When you try to plug this into a quantum field theory and replace the gravitational metric $$g_{\mu\nu}$$ with a quantized tensor operator, expanding the $$\sqrt{-g}$$ term leads to an infinite series of increasingly higher dimensional operators, requiring an infinite number of parameters to be independently chosen in order to permit normalization. Thanks to the ingenuity of great minds such as Terrence, we can bypass the renormalization issue and unify gravity at the quantum scale using the power of love.

machines will take your job away

Helloooo did you miss I am retired?

Not sure about machines replacing nurses but not ruling it out
I'm guessing those who would have been nurses will become Nurse Technicians servicing the nurse robots

Let me know when it happens and please send links (please no twitter, YouTube, Facebook or any ANY social media)

Any prestigious scientific publication would be acceptable

Also any link to articles about him be considered for the Nobel Prize would be appreciated

:)

Like I said, robots will take away all your jobs and you're just scared because they'll only demand half the salary. Even in retirement, they'll only require half the pension a human does, so that still makes you obsolete! But yes we will still need a small number of human nurses both to maintain the robots and to change their bedpans, until people like Terrence Howard figure out how to make robots do those things themselves.

No idea what you are talking about but it has the smell of Woo Woo

You asked me for a source, and then you dare to brush it all off as woo woo without checking the math?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Einstein–Hilbert_action

It's all written down there for you, the only thing it's missing is the power of love.

Well there's no official recommendations yet, but you can see that Dr. Howard has lots of supporters who think he should get the prize, just look at the crowd he drew at OXFORD, that's like the smartest school in the universe!

You're closed-minded to anything that doesn't come from a prestigious stuck-up journal of some kind, even though you ought to know that the editors of those journals deliberately exclude outsiders from making any sort of contribution because they jealously guard their own funding and careers. No one in the establishment wants to accept that a rich Hollywood actor who can't count to 10 has the answer to the mysteries of the universe, because it would shatter their precious egos and prove that all the years they spent learning to solve math problems was wasted, when they could have spent that time at frat parties meeting chicks and watching football!

You think you're so smart and good at math, huh? Bet you can't figure out how to be in Iron Man and get paid more than Iron Man himself, like Terrence Howard did with $$1\times 1\neq 1$$. Anyone with half a brain would take me seriously!!!

He won't and his nut case maths will play no part

Checked but no idea. Still smell Woo Woo

There will be no official recommendations

Has he obtained a official title Dr?

Ya that would sock it to them

You have a good fantasy story line there but I think it's been covered a few hundred times

You think you're so smart and good at math, huh?

No

Bet you can't figure out how to be in Iron Man and get paid more than Iron Man himself, like Terrence Howard

Correct. It does appear though he's operating on the P T Barnum principal with maths being the new snake oil

Anyone with half a brain would take me seriously!!!

Agree

Most people would have to dumb down (half of craniotomy) to half a brain level before taking you seriously

Unfortunately many, even when all their brain intact, appear to be at half brain removed level

:)

I'm glad I don't have that problem.

Your avatar name would suggest your from string theory

In string theory and related theories such as supergravity theories, a braneis a physical object that generalizes the notion of a point particle to higher dimensions. Branes are dynamical objects which can propagate through spacetime according to the rules of quantum mechanics.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brane

Not sure how you get ½ of those

:)

It comes from the regularization of the Riemann zeta function and the necessity of a massless boson in the first string excitation, that's where the number of required dimensions is set. The number of permitted dimensions can be a half-integer if we simply accept Dr. Howard's proposal that $$1\times 1\neq 1$$.
This recent exchange made me roar with laughter. Very good!

But, to be serious for a moment, don't mock the aphfphflicted! :D

Has he obtained a official title Dr?

Yes he has, sir! He has a doctorate in chemical engineering, which has been officially confirmed because he previously said so on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

So big shot, you still wanna question him? People think he can't contribute to science just because he can't multiply math or count fractions, it's such an insular and limiting opinion. You're stuck in the 1960's still trying to quantize gravity, meanwhile he's hanging out in the skies with Iron Man laughing down at poor suckers like you while he protects the galaxy.

Laugh at me all you want, Michael deserves to be confronted because he refuses to accept my words at face value. Unlike multi-talented actor-scientists such as Dr. Howard, he struggles to distinguish reality from falsehood.

Multiplication is a shortcut for repeated additions

Example you need to add 6 groups of 4 apples

Count one group - you have 4 apples

You now have only 5 groups remaining to ADD

ÀDD the next group you now have 8 apples

ADD next group you have 12 apples

ADD next group you have 16 apples

ADD next group you have 20 apples

ADD next group you have 24 apples

With 6 groups of 4 apples ADDED you finish with a total of 24 apples

Short cut multiple 6 (the groups) by 4 (number of apples in each group) 6X4 = 24

Lets try another easier example

Lets have 1 group with 1 apple

Multiple 1 (the group) by 1 (the apple) = 1 apple

Let's go again with something other than apple. Something like the number 1

Ready? We have 1 (the group) by 1 (the number)

Multiple 1X1 = 1

My work here is done

Coffee time

Geeze never thought I would be explaining 1 X 1 = 1 to a adult from a county where people were smart enough to put a man on the moon

:)

LOL, is this real, or play-a-long?

Maybe the moon landing was only possible because of 1 x 1 NOT equaling 1? The world may never know. Or may it?

Michael thinks he's so smart because he can bully around people like myself who lack the requisite knowledge, but he's still got nothing on visionaries like Dr. Terrence Howard. And if $$1\times 1=1$$, quantum physics proves that the moon shouldn't even exist!

Did you actually watch Dr. Howard's lecture, or did you just skip to the end so you could say that you did? If $$1\times 1=1$$, where does that leave room for 2? You already have 2 elements on the left-hand side, which in Terrence's example we can label as $$a$$ and \(b\), and we can label the single element on the right-hand side as \(c\). Now you have $$2=1$$ which makes absolutely no sense. Another example from Dr. Howard: we know that $$\sqrt{2}=2$$, but we also know that \(\sqrt{4}=2\), so how can these quantities possibly be equal? Like Dr. Howard says, do you really believe in straight lines and loops? Lol lol lol at you if you do.

I know several different ways to prove that \(\int_0^\infty \! e^{-x^2} \, \mathrm{d}x=\frac{1}{2}\sqrt{\pi}\), based on the conventional math you're trying to outline. But this makes no sense when you inspect it closely, because on the left-hand side you have an integral which slices the area under a curve into infinitely many pieces and sums up those pieces, whereas we know on the right-hand side there's only so many times you can slice pie up before it crumbles.

Nice try with your fuzzy math Michael but you're not bamboozling me, even if you've spent more time than me learning it instead of dating sorority chicks.

I think the world knows 1 X 1 = 1 even without my fuzzy maths

See post #52 to see why CptBork is now on Iggy

:)

Terrence spoke to me in a dream last night about an upcoming lecture he's presenting on Howard algebras and their connection to Lie symmetry groups. Very exciting material coming up in the next few weeks, y'all gonna be sorry you disrespected him!

Oh dear, oh dear, the inevitable Iggy. I would suggest to Michael that it might be a good idea to reconsider CptBork's posts with a pinch of humor. Unfortunately, I don't think Terrence is joking, though.

Got it! You are channelling Trump. :D

Ok ok, to be clear, I actually think Terrence Howard is beyond nuts. I don't think he has a Ph.D. in chemical engineering, although he reportedly did indeed say that on Jimmy Kimmel Live and other occasions, and the claim is noted on his Wikipedia page. He did receive an honorary doctorate for being a celebrity and showing up to give a commencement speech at the college where he claimed to receive his Ph.D., but I'm not sure that's quite the same thing.

However, I do indeed believe that $$1\times 1\neq 1$$. Not because of any bullshit argument Terrence Howard makes, but because it sounds cool.

Terrence Howard math lesson #25: if I have one wife, and I slap her once, then I've assaulted her zero times.

Can't see any humour

I can stand certain level of stupidity

However willful stupidity is a no no
