:) to all you people: i love your accents...i am enamoured with them... i wish i could hear you speaking around me all the time.

So where are you from? If I hear someone with a foreign accent in my local pub, I always ask where they're from. Most accents are nice - except Birmingham (UK).

Cheers,

Ron.

hmm, interesting concept.

How to make haggis.
If you live in the USA your government has decreed many of the ingredients unsuitable for human consumption, and cannot be purchased in the shops!

ingredients
 • 1 sheep's stomach bag plus the pluck (lights, liver and heart)
 • 1 lb Lean Lamb
 • 6 oz Oatmeal
 • 8 oz Shredded Suet
 • 2 large Onions, chopped
 • about 1/4 pint beef stock
Now to make it:
 • Soak the stomach bag in salted water overnight.
 • Place the pluck (lights, liver and heart) in a saucepan with the windpipe hanging over the edge. Cover with water and boil for up to 2 hours hours. Impurities will pass out through the windpipe and so you need to put a basin under it to catch any drips. Drain well and cool. Remove the windpipe and any gristle or skin..
 • Mince the liver and heart with the lamb. (Add some of the lights before mincing if you wish.)
 • Toast the oatmeal gently until crisp and pale golden brown.
 • Combine the suet and onion with minced mixture. Season well and add enough stock to moisten well. Pack it all into the stomach bag, filling it just over half-full as the stuffing will swell during cooking.
 • Tie the bag tightly with string. Prick the haggis all over with a needle to stop it bursting as it swells
 • Put an upturned plate in the base of a saucepan of boiling water, stand the haggis on this and bring to the boil, and let it boil slowly for about 4 hours.
 • Makes enough for 6 to 8 helpings of delicious haggis.

hmmmm.

Cheers

I'm a Brit but I live permanently in California, and have done so since 1996.

Most of my life has been in the south east of London and Kent, i.e. Chislehurst, Bromley, Orpington, Maidstone. My family home is still in Chislehurst.

As for accents: Most Americans think I am from Australia. The US ear seems to have great difficulty differentiating between British and Australian accents. I have always found that curious since to my ear the differences are massive.

But I like the brummy accent, it is jorde that I find so alien.

Snowballs were made in a factory which was behind the one in which I did my apprenticeship,in London. From back in the 1950s.Until it was cheaper to make them up north.Same with the caramel bars.
In fact my Mother in law used to make them there.
So there not Scots!
Nice to see you Scots like the London stuff.

My four favourite UK cities: Glasgow (but I'm biased), Liverpool, Newcastle (Geordie-land) and Belfast.

All with the same crazy sense of humour and all welcoming of visitors.

Aye up, bonny lad (or lass),

Cheers, pumpkin, never be ashamed of where you come from - while allowing the same courtesy to others (from your postings on several threads, I think you're O.K there).

All the best,

Ron.

Tunnocks is a Scottish Company that make a range of biscuit products; mainly Caramel Wafers, Marsh Mallows, Teacakes, Snowballs, Wafer Creams and Caramel Logs. Two products are represented in the previous photographs that i posted. Thomas Tunnock opened his first bakers shop and tearoom at Lorne Place, Bellshill Road, Uddingston in 1890. Why do you think the logo has a Lion Rampant on it? For novelty?
You can write to them and ask for their history if you dont believe me. :)

Notice that they are still in Glasgow being a Scottish company.

Nice to see the world appreciating Scottish Choclatey goodness. :)

I can't better that Cap'n. Just to say that us non-English seem to have hijacked the thread.

Cheers,

Thats what i thought as nobody could be so stupid in claiming that a world famous company is theirs unless it is. Thats like saying Chrysler is Scottish! :D :D:D
