It would seem to me that the following points are relevant:
Space (as in disk space) is not really a concern, for the reasons stated above, e.g. the actual signature would probably be kept in a database and pulled out "on the fly" by .php or .asp or whatever, taking up literally next to nothing in terms of real space.
Visual space, (i.e. every post has this huge signature at the bottom or top) can be very distracting. And entirely needless, if a user wants to communicate something significant about themselves we have all sorts of places to do so on our "profile" pages. Placing the text on each post simply makes it harder to read the threads, I personally like the uncluttered "feel" of SF posts...
Dastardly, dangerous "links" imbedded in a signature are a joke, as any halfway competent programmer would tell you --> simply block html, jscript, etc - problem solved...
Having said all that, why not compromise (If this BB software allows for it) and increase the "Custom User Title" characters available? This would only take up a max of one line of visual space, and extremely little / next to no actual disk space....
3 related Signature threads have been merged, you will find it quite disjointing but since it's all the same topic, it kind of made sense to merge them. The thread is now housed in the right sub-forum "Feedback".
Thank you all. I don't care so much whether I can add a signature or not.
But since signatures are not allowed, the 'Edit Signature' link should be removed from the FAQ.
