Sciforums Fleet

Out of Game:

Personally I prefer Latin names.

I say we let Flemster decide the name and the ship design, it is his idea for this after all, but no harm in giving suggestions.

out of game: nice. Want to add a few rail guns for anti fighter turrents?

Well, the thing is that the beam arrays do work against fighters. The idea is that you fire short bursts for fighters and you can deliver quite a few shots per second. But for anti ships you'd fire them longer with more power.

The thing is that rail guns are kinetic, kinetic weapons suck compared to directed energy weapons against shields. And the thing is, that every single one of our previous ships including enemy ships use kinetic weaponry. With a few directed energy weapons of course. But with beam arrays we have an advantage, an array can protect a ton of surface area on a ship. And a standard photon torpedo or quantum torpedo possesses a lot more destructive power because of an anti matter charge.

This is the most advanced ship in the fleet at the moment.

why latin names? It's a dead language.

Endeavour makes sense, it explains our mission purpose perfectly.

You guys, what are those two ships made to do?

I dont know about them, but I know that the ship I posted is made to be a long range extended mission science vessel. It looks sleek but it does not look to be wildly extravegant. None of the other ships seem to be anything that would realistically be made on earth, either too large or too alieny.

out of game: ask him i don't know I just like the way is ship looked.

Well, the Hyperion was Arcturus Mengsk's flagship, commandeered by Jim Raynor. It is the base for Raynor's rebellion against the Terran Dominion ( they are humans, in the Kopulu Sector ), it is where they produce their weapons, train troops and live. It have a very good laboratory and factory. It is a very tough ship

The second one is a Protoss Carrier, used by the Protoss.

However, they can do what we want them to do.

There are intellectuals keeping it alive, and my school have a course for it ( I will be taking it ). I am fascinated by the latin language.

But it doesn't really make much sense.

Endeavour
Intrepid
Galileo
Trident
Explorer
Voyager
Pioneer

Those are names that could make sense.

You guys, we need to look at this realistically, this is an exploration cruiser.

Our planet was just ravaged by war, do you guys really think realistically that we could possibly in the midst of rebuilding our planet, it could fall to pieces any second, do you really think we could find the time, manpower, and resources to make a massive extravegent ship? No, I am giving you guys a ship that fits the bill. Namely a ship that is realistic, that makes sense in the context of present circumstances, and it does the job as needed.

Those are warships. I was told we are going to continue this ship on an exploration cruiser. What in the world would I need a weapons factory for on a mission of peace and exploration?

out of game: Just in case.

Just in case of what? This is a five hundred man crew. The only reason you would need a weapons factory on this ship is to wage war, to wage a war we would need maybe 150,000 to 250,000 soldiers. That means that no one ship can carry that many soldiers, you would need an entire armada of dozens of ships. That would be a battle fleet.

Since when do you explore a solar system and make peace with a battle fleet?

Umm.....there are a lot of other UEA planets beside Earth. It is going to have a civil war soon ( originally ), but not yet and due to reasons of territory ( between Vichi and Oceania ). The ship I gave is pretty realistic, plus who said it have to be build during wartime? The Yamato, the I-400, the Bismark are all build during wartime.

Guys, it is a ship we will have to live on comfortably, fight well and survive with minimal casualties and damage. The ship have to look strong and firm, a ship that you don't want to attack or bother. We have to have the facilities to be ready for anything. The ship I proposed could carry multiple fighters/bombers as well as shuttle. It just looks big, but in reality it is only about 20% larger then the Enterprise.

What is inside can be anything we want, just the outside design that is of question.

I suggest:

Rimor ( explorer )

Angelus ( angel )

Consilium ( wisdom )

Virtus ( courage )

Luminarium ( light )

Terra ( earth )

Just to name a few latin names.

It is just the outer design we are deciding, we are creating the facilities ourselves instead of ripping off a series. If we decide that the ship is an exploration cruiser even if in the series it is based off of, it is not.

Weapons factory can create other things, it can be used to manufacture parts, instruments .etc

Crew is 500 man, the compliment of troops have never been decided. It can be for security and used to manufacture other items. No, Jim Raynor didn't have that much troops, he simply used it to manufacture new equipment and fixed the old ones. Also, Raynor didn't have a fleet.

Your ship is made to be a warship. I was told we were exploring. Common sense dictates you would want to explore in an exploration cruiser.

The ship I gave is made for long range exploration. It uses a crystalline form of dilithium, they can be recharged and reused over time. The ship uses beam arrays, beam arrays have no moving parts which means high reliability, which means you can go long periods of time without maintanence.

The ship has a lot of interior space for engineering and laboratories. The very shape of the hull is meant to increase warp and quantum slipstream efficiency, for fuel efficiency. Better fuel efficiency means longer time before refueling.

The large engineering facilities mean that the ship can repair itself.

Replicators mean that you do not need food or water storage but so long as you have energy you can replicate them.

A 500 man crew is the optimum mix between too few crewmembers and too many crewmembers.

Everything about the ship I am giving you is made to do the job at hand. My ship fits like a glove, yours is made to wage war, not to explore, we all know it.

Out of Game:

Okay, I thought about it, fedr808's ship design is better, here is why I saw so:

The less firepower the more exciting the plot.

AS to my enlightenment of that, I don't recommend firepower.
