When you say "a larger version" I can not help but imagine this:

Mules (or donkeys) would be less expensive, and they can live on grass. All they really need is some training not to be spooked by gunfire, and maybe a bulletproof vest. Glad to see the military research contractor$ are having a good time, though.

i cracked up, avatar, seroiusly

and spidergoat, mules don't run really fast with loads on their backs, this thing could. and a mule can't have a swivle head that fires lasers :D. plus, mules die too easily in a combat situation, and they scare easily compared to a robot. and then there's the fact that you need food, water, and proper facilities for live animals as opposed to just plain fuel and tech support.

if they built it, i'd buy a two-legger for personal amusement. and mount lasers on it. :D

You know, I have one simple request. And that is to have robotic mules with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads!

I'm sorry, but robotic mules with laser beams attached to their heads are ruled out by the Geneva convention.

However, we do have some ill-tempered robotic hamsters...

Robotic lazer-equipped mules would be perfect for eliminated those pesky glac elves. The next time they try and break into my storage shed to steal my food, I'll have a little surprise waiting for them :)

As cool as building a robotic emulation of an Animal would be, he question is why? What purpose would it serve? There are machines with wheels that can already perform the tasks much simpler, cheaper, and better than something with legs.

according to a link that spidergoat gave it's original purpose was to carry gear for foot soldiers. i don't think a wheeled vehicle can perform as well as a legged machine in jungle evironments.
