Radical Islam : What is the fundamental motivation?

Hitler screamed some distorted nonsense about Darwin and Nietzsche, and when you've read enough commas by Darwin and Nietzsche, you realize that Adolf was seriously full of sh... All that hate towards some random segment that was easy to make a patsy had the same origin: That he didn't get laid during the 1920s. As soon as he became the dominant male in broken Deutschland, Eva Braun popped up and threw off her knickers.

Umberto Eco calls ISIS the new nazis. Any cult'll do in the midst of the hysteria.

Jews and Christians are actually allowed to kill faggots, too.
If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltiness is upon them.
- Book of Leviticus, 20:13

Religion has nothing to do with what people do. Unless they need an excuse, they can't dig up anyways else.

What makes you think they don't follow that directive? The only thing that has mitigated that tendency is the influence of secularism. The existing mores of society were codified into a religion, which fossilized those (im)moral lessons even in light of a changing society. That why I say that moderates in religion are proportional to their lack of religiosity. As long as veneration for the Old Testament or the Quran remain as sources of morality, they will always be a danger.

They aren't nuts. They are sincere believers that think they are fulfilling divine law.

It's still only dumb excuses. Whether people take a month out of the year where they don't eat in sunlight, or a month where they put a damn tree in the living room, or if they wash their newborns or wash their dead, that doesn't safeguard against the needs of human hysteria in an over populated world. Religion will never be the safety net people desperately need it to be, no more than political ideologies or some random philosophical ism. Christians burned women alive on bonfires for centuries. How the hell does that make sense in terms of the altruism of Jesus of Nazareth? So it's often Islam today, tomorrow it'll be Buddha. We ... will ... find ... our ... excuses.

And random day to day people, who just happens to be "Muslims", but otherwise compromise the ol' silly stories just as much as Christians or other Jews, they will now have to pay the prize for the few lunatics who didn't get their winky wet in time. How the hell do you think the Germans felt about the shite the nazis did in their name? As they got gang raped by Soviet soldiers?

It doesn't compare at all to Jesus, crazy world.

Well if the US is involved, I think they still want to see revelations played out.

You'd need to acquaint yourself with the fate of Hypatia. A neoplatonic Alexandrian (and female) intellectual, that refused to convert to Christianity, and got butchered by a Christian congregation in the year 415. Just because she didn't do as she was told. Those Christians forgot all about turning the other cheek, not even four centuries after Jesus. 'Cause now the Christians dominated society, so who cares about that principle of loving thy neighbour ... thingy ... thingamajig? What ever, I can't get laid here.

Religion can't save us. Nothing can. Nietzsche's superman is a biological impossibility.

Stood in firelight, sweltering. Bloodstain on chest like map of violent new continent. Felt cleansed. Felt dark planet turn under my feet and knew what cats know that makes them scream like babies in night. Looked at sky through smoke heavy with human fat and God was not there. The cold, suffocating dark goes on forever and we are alone. Live our lives, lacking anything better to do. Devise reason later. Born from oblivion; bear children, hell-bound as ourselves, go into oblivion. There is nothing else. Existence is random. Has no pattern save what we imagine after staring at it for too long. No meaning save what we choose to impose. This rudderless world is not shaped by vague metaphysical forces. It is not God who kills the children. Not fate that butchers them or destiny that feeds them to the dogs. It’s us. Only us. Streets stank of fire. The void breathed hard on my heart, turning its illusions to ice, shattering them. Was reborn then, free to scrawl own design on this morally blank world. Was Rorschach. Does that answer your questions, Doctor?

CEngelbrecht,

What you are saying would only be true if people didn't sincerely believe that their holy books were directives from the divine. I think if we eliminate religious justifications for immoral acts, we could then evaluate those acts with far more clarity. In other words, I believe that religion makes otherwise good people do evil things. Do I think society would be free of immorality and violence without religion? No, but we would have one less excuse for it.

Except that atheism then becomes the religion instead. And nothing changes.
Except atheism can't possibly have any unquestioned premises handed down from the divine. People may question it just as they question science. (South Park episodes aside). I happen to think that the Enlightenment and the rise of secularism has resulted in more peaceful societies. Certain studies seem to support the notion that general violence has actually decreased in modern times.

Neither can anyone else. There's always a priest, or an imam, or a rabbi, or a guru, or a Chairman, or a Ceasar, involved.

Atheism just alters the nomenclature, the job titles.
