I would take 2:1 odds against me and still bet she chewed a lot of coke leaves, but am not suggesting that had anything to do with it. - Only pointing out that "pollution," even quick and lethal poisoning, is readly available pre-WWII in remote areas.Silas said:..What is quite surprising is that this was before the second world war, which pretty much precludes her premature development being anything to do with pollution, particularly in the remote area she lived in. As the doctor suggested it was probably a genetic pituitary defect.
There is, for example, reasonable support for the idea that some natural plant on the Greek islands, now unfortunately no longer existing, was a very effective contraceptive or fetus killing agent.
Brazil is full of people using natural medicines, one, known to be in used for several thousand years, I have adopted as it really works wonders. Man seldom, if ever, develops anything (including both fission and fusion release of energy!) prior to nature doing it. I also drink a tea made from the leaves of a tree that the natives were using so long before they were "discovered" that no one know how long it has been in use. (>10,000 years? -I like things that are well tested in widespread use and show no harmful effects. BTW, some friends returning from Peru brought back some coke-leave tea bags. It is not bad, mildly stimulation but less so than coffee. US is all wrong trying to stop the unrefined use of coke leaves. Morales is right on this. He should know as he has been using and growing coke for this use all his life as did his grandfather 100 generations back. Let the US give up coffee first. - bunch of ignorant hypocrites, telling others how to live!) The Bayer Chemical company came from the root of a willow tree accidentally found (MHO) by applying, the clearly false (again, MHO) religious "doctrine of signatures." Even coffee was accidently discovered by a monk tending some grazing sheep so one story goes, but no one knows the truth.
