Avatar. It is useless trying to understand Thomas if you haven't read the Bible. The gospel of Thomas is a later writing, and whoever wrote it must have had the gospels (Pauls letters, etc.) His theology would have followed
from them. It's a lot of reading, but you asked for it.
Jesus said to his disciples:
Make comparisons; tell me what I am like.
Simon Peter said to him:
You are like a just angel.
Matthew said to him:
You are like a wise philosopher.
Thomas said to him:
Master, my mouth will in no way endue
my saying what you are like.
Jesus said:
I am not your master.
1.Jesus wasn't their master. God is.
Mark 10:18
"Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good–except God alone.
Jesus said to them:
When you make the two one,
and make the inside like the outside,
and the outside like the inside,
and the upper side like the under side,
and in such a way that you make the man
with the woman a single one,
in order that the man is not man and the
woman is not woman;...
then you will go into the kingdom.
2.When you value the unity that God intended with marriage (that two will be one, and faithful), the dimensions and conventions of the unity are irrelevant.
Jesus said:
Perhaps men think that I came
to cast peace on the world;
and they do not know that I came
to cast divisions upon the earth,
fire, sword, war.
For five will be in a house;
there will be three agianst two and two against three,
the father against the son and the son against the father.
And they will stand because they are single ones.

"Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword." Read the rest, and then speak to a Muslim who decided to become Christian.

6.Perfectly in line with the commandment "keep my Sabbath holy".

For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.

Jesus said:
Many stand before the door,
but the single ones are those who will enter into the bridechamber.
7.Very cryptic, but 'single ones' might refer to people who serve no other gods.
Matthew 6:24
"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.
Matthew 7:21
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
Jesus said:
He who has known the world has found a corpse,
and he who has found a corpse,
of him the world is not worthy.
8.The world is dead, and once you realize that you can know what life really means... but read further:
Heb.11:38. - the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, and in caves and holes in the ground.
39These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised. 40God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.
His disciples said:
Show us the place where you are
for it is necessary for us to seek it.
He said to them:
He who has ears, let him hear!
There is light within a light-man
and it illuminates the whole world;
if it does not illuminate it, it is darkness.
9.Jesus is that light - if you look and you don't see him, either your eyes are closed, or you are blind. Either way, you won't find "the place where he is" anywhere else but with God. Nothing to do with sin, directly - but sin is when you don't follow God's commandments, when you stray out of the light.
Matthew 6
22"The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. 23But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

Thomas probably wasn't canonized because it's so cryptic. What we alreay have is far clearer and straightforward. But some people like mysteries, I guess...
