So if Sandy made $20K in one month on her portfolio, she made a damn nice gain in value, even with the dollar being in decline against other currencies.

That's all I've been trying to say.

I think some of the members of this forum have read so much of Billy T's bluster, they've missed some fundamental aspects of this argument. Yes, the dollar has been in a nosedive, but that doesn't mean that the dollar buys less in the states than it did yesterday.

But it does, pretty much. Except for housing, last couple of months.

The problem is we don't make general stuff, in the States, any more. So when the dollar drops overseas, it hurts us.

Even MORE great economic news: The Commerce Department reported that orders for manufactured goods rose by 1.5 percent in November, the biggest rise since a 3.4 percent surge in July. :bravo: :yay:

WHAT?!! Because of drugs?!! That is not as common as you may think it is, most people who are homeless, believe it or not, are untreated schizoids, have mental disabilities, or have mental illnesses. The reason I advocate homeless people is that many of them need treatment in order to live normally in mainstream society.

Most poor people are not losers. It was something they were born into, and they simply cannot get out, even with ambition.

I see I was ignored again.

Don't forget that the US$ is decreasing in value.

Does that include imports from China ?

Ice, inflation in the US in by no means in line with the drop of the dollar vs various foreign currencies. That's what he's saying. Go to the store. How many products have doubled in price in the last few years? Perhaps the only item I can think of that has risen as the dollar has fallen is gas.

So the price you pay for imported goods has fallen to accomodate the dollar?

One has to keep the sales receipt to find out. I am sure prescription drug prices have doubled. Even the lowly Sam's cola went from 58 cents to 67 cents in the last 6 months. Tilapia went from $2.58 per Lb to $4.85 per Lb in the last 6 months. Meat price has gone up. Even potato price has gone up. Pecan pie has doubled in price from last year Christmas time.

I went to go stock my freezer in the garage with more stuff and saw that my favorite Marie Calander's spaghetti tv dinner went up from $2.89 to $4.69 overnight. Most items take their time to grow to a point, but damn, that was like instant. Oh well, good thing I don't eat many tv dinners, but dang, those were good when in the mood for it.

Here are the most recent numbers I could find from the BLS website.

CPI-U from Nov '06 to present 4.3%
CPI-U all items, less food & energy 2.3%
CPI-U medical care 5.0%

One other nugget that jumped off the page: In the Producer Price Index summary, petroleum was up 34.8%. Disgusting...

I do not think the BLS site is correct. I do not think they have a data set that lists specific products, their sku numbers and price that is tracked monthly. So, they can fudge it really good. The best way to find it is to look for your grocery receipt that is 6 months old and check the prices today.

President Bush said the nation's financial markets are strong and solid.:bravo: He said there is some uncertainty about slowing economic growth but we're ok. W spoke after meeting with his top economic advisers about drafting a package to stimulate the economy. He said this economy is on a solid foundation but it can't be taken for granted, and there are some signs of concern that require the administration and Congress to be careful to ensure economic strength.

"There are signs that cause us to be ever more diligent in making sure good policies come out of Washington," he said. Sitting around a table with his economic advisers in the Roosevelt Room, the president warned Congress against taking steps that would increase taxes. "If the foundation is strong yet indicators are mixed, the worst thing Congress could do is raise taxes," Bush said.

He said legislation could be passed to help Americans refinance their homes. He also called for expanding petroleum refining capacity and exploring for energy in "environmentally friendly ways."

If the policies the government makes, will cut down the imports such that companies will produce more at home, then that would be good. Without that, kiss the economy good bye. Any other method would not work well, because high paying jobs will be few and far between. Also, while we definitely need to replace aging military hardware - which is the easy way out, that should not be a primary goal to boost jobs .

the economy is shit not because of illegals but bush's well moronic economic policies

From one email:

"Mike Huckabee had a big night, but the clear winner in last night's Republican caucus was President George W. Bush. All of the Republican leaders promised four more years of the Bush Administration's failed policies, from continuing the President's war in Iraq, to pursuing his efforts to privatize Social Security, to extending his budget-busting handouts for special interest friends."

So watch out...you could have more of the same for the next 4 years.

What failed policies? Iraq is quiet since the surge and going very well. You will NEVER hear that on the drive-by media. Social security SHOULD be privitazed. Who the hell wants the government in charge of ANY aspect of their money? Not me. Not any sane person. President George W. Bush is an AWESOME man of God. I LOVE him! :yay:

I'd be thrilled with 4 more years of W-like leadership: NO TERROR ATTACKS sice 911!! Great economy, stock market, jobs, full employment, etc. It's been a WONDERFUL 8 years! Thank you President Bush! :bravo:

What Americans will get if they vote in a lib is 4 more years of impotence like the democrat-controlled Congress is showing us. They, under Pelosi, have done NOTHING on their list. This past year was an utter failure. The only one calling for an immediate end to the war is Edwards who has no chance in hell of winning.
