just a little thing I have been thinking about

It is a complicated issue what rights does a criminal have? If you choose to violate the covenant of society does society have a responsibility to protect them and if so why? I do not approve of any one else having the right to perform vigilante actions. I sympathize with the farmer if he was able to catch the thief in action ethically. But my personal ethics require society to be held to a higher standard than an individual because I trust individuals more than I trust large groups. I have seen personally that when individuals surrender their ethics to the group that the consensus actions are less ethical than an individual.
