Is Punching A Nazi OK?

The assault on self proclaimed "white nationalist" Richard Sponsor has caused the rise of an ethical question on Facebook and twitter about if it is acceptable to use violence on anyone labeled or simply is a "nazi".

Legal no it is wrong to attack anyone for spouting what ever they spout, or to attack them for claims against them, only police and a court of law my beat, imprison and even execute someone legally.

But morally is it ok?

If you are a Godless person then it is ok, since you consider Nazi is evil
If you are a God Fearing person then it is morally wrong.
 
Forget "GOD".
If you wish to live in a civilized society, then you need to behave in a civil manner.
 
The word "Nazi" is being loosely defined to include anyone with a differing view. Justification to harm someone is now simply a label away. The idea that an individual is somehow justified to hit another because of their views is turning these protests into a potential danger that nobody wants. I can easily see guns entering the picture in the near future.
 
Whatever. That's my opinion. If it's OK to kill a terrorist, it's OK to kill a Nazi. What's the difference? They both want to kill me.
 
Note, that I think going around killing Nazis is, for the most part, counterproductive. These morons are heavily armed and would like nothing better than a fight. It's better to ignore them. But I do think it would be morally acceptable.
 
Long ago(circa 1979-80?) i went to see/hear Menachem Begin speak at Northwestern University.
The "neo nazis" showed up---a rather clean cut bunch of youths, wearing black trousers, white shirts and black ties. They formed up in a single line facing the building wherein Begin would speak. Shortly, the JDL showed up. They were a rather scruffy bunch wearing partial military attire, field jackets, boots, etc. They formed up facing the 'neo nazis' and effected a menacing look.
I was enjoying the counterpoints of the show, when the doors to the hall opened up, and I entered the building leaving the show behind.

Very interesting evening with incompetent security personnel, a snooty northwestern student, the main attraction, and the show.
I could have listened to Begin for a few more hours and not felt abused.

And, here's the thing, nobody killed anybody, nor even engaged in fisticufs.
Civilization requires civility!

I think you have that backwards. If you are a God fearing person you punch (or kill) anyone your God tells you to. (Which is how most religious wars start.)
If you are a godless person then you use your own judgment. And since you don't want to be punched by other people, you would probably decide to not punch other people with no reason.
 
This stuff is getting out of hand. I think it will get worse before it gets any better.

Agreed. We have a president who has actively advocated for such violence, and his supporters think there's nothing wrong with that.

My God says you should not kill and love your fellow man as yourself.
We have so many wars and assaults because we use our own judgment. The Pope , Napoleon , The house of Habsburg, Hitler. Stalin, Hirohito, Churchill, Mao Tse Tung, Kennedy, LBJ. Nixon , Bush Saddam Hussain , Bush Jr, and many more others

Yes yes this is not simply a problem on the left, rather I think sculptor is correct and this is a sign civility is ending and we are nearing something very uncivil.

Not sure what religion you are. Here's what Pope Urban II said about "loving your fellow man:"

"For, as the most of you have heard, the Turks and Arabs have attacked them and have conquered the territory of Romania [the Greek empire] as far west as the shore of the Mediterranean and the Hellespont, which is called the Arm of St. George. . . .If you permit them to continue thus for awhile with impurity, the faithful of God will be much more widely attacked by them. An example of Christ commanding Catholics to "destroy that vile race."
