Kayaks are cool, I have built several. You can get far away from civilization.
 
Mine weighs less than 40 lbs, you can carry it around such an obstacle (they call it a portage).
 
ok EVERYONE, I bought a kayak...weighs 41lbs, I carried it 2 miles on my bike over to the river, its amazing. Cost me $317 with tax and the original price tag was around $450 without tax. YAY!!! I got great plans on traveling all over the Michigan and lake superior lakes...and maybe get from michigan as far west as I can on this kayak. THIS IS IT people. YAY

ummm USS-Exeter...I am not exactly a white-water kayak enthusiast...I am more of a serene waters and long trips kayaker. And I am pretty experienced. ...I do need a partner to go kayaking with me...

What kind? The short ones intended for whitewater don't track in a straight line very well, but there are keels you can add on so they tour better.

I imagine you don't really need a kayak either, plus you can go outside and be in the sun without a kayak.
That said, buying a laptop will probably result in more inside-time..

If you feel like spending the money buy what you like most.
